no updates at all for my mom.

Did you try to contact them? A friend of mine did not get any updates for almost two months. She called the consulate and got her visa the next day.

In my father's case there was no updates for 10-12 days and then they requested more papers. The original reason for 221g was that the NVC never forwarded the joint sponsor's documents to the consula

July 15 =============== Still AP

July 16 =============== Documents sent to USEM via 2GO

July 23 =============== status updated

Theres no number there to contact

There are plenty of numbers there, including in the immigrant visa section. It does not have to be "mine02 please call this number" :) From my experience (different consulate, but still), you can contact pretty much any number or e-mail and they will forward you where you need to go. I have done it several times in the past.
