They most certainly didn't change members. It's just that the southern democrats lost their internal struggle with the progressive democrats in the 60s. But in local politics, a lot of the racism in souther regions actually come from democrats in the South. After all, a party that changed their views would certainly have expelled a former KKK leader from its ranks, a congressperson that filibustered civil rights legislation in the 60s. But nope, Robert Byrd died in office in 2010 and was a leader in the party. (To be fair, he did apologize for his positions).

Is there any precedent that would make you think that? And didn't Byrd come out and condemn the KKK and his beliefs that he held in his earlier years?

You said that the party changed membership. It didn't. It just evolved. But if you seek precedent for a party expelling someone because they find the views abhorrent: http://time.com/3666653/rnc-dave-agema-republican/

You probably read my parenthesis about it Byrd apologizing for his views.

When I asked if there was precedent, that usually mean something that happened prior to the subject at hand, not in Jan of 2015. The very first paragraph from your link states:

In a move unprecedented in recent memory, members of the Republican National Committee will gather this week to consider voting to expel one of their own.

Well, John Tyler was expelled by the Whig party for being too constitutionalist. Is that old enough?

I think it's a good idea. Anyone who owned slaves, regardless of their places in history, were part of one of the biggest atrocities in all of history. They don't deserve to be honored, at least not by the political party that represents the majority of people they harmed. Why should black people be forced to accept the name of that dinner that only reminds them of the horrors of yesteryear? That's like holding an Adolf Hitler dinner for Jews.

All this bs we constantly hear about how great the founding father's were, is simply that, bs. Most of them were nothing more than greedy businessmen that made their fortunes off of the backs of slave labor.

I love your phrase "at least by the political party that represents the majority of the people they harmed". This of course is debatable.

Debatable of course, but you can see the logic.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Sorry, just reread your post.

The party of Lincoln used to be where it was at for black people and the Democrats were the bane. Times have changed. And now the GOP has made it a point to exclude minorities.

You do realize that was some female thing that was drummed up by them.

This wasn't a government or Federal poll

I heard Trump was going to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, or heck they need to bring back the $500 or $1000 and put his face on it........
