New Zealand police check for k1 Visa

Sorry in advance for the lengthy back ground history, thought it maybe helpful to know tho.

My question relates to the New Zealand police check.

My partner and I received the fantastic news on 14/07/15 that our K1 visa was now at the US consulate in Sydney and after 9 long months of waiting we could finally schedule the interview. The 29th September was issued....The joyous day however was short lived

As i have lived in various country's over the years, I began to apply for the police checks as part of the k1 interview process. ( United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand ). I might add the Australian and United Kingdom applications were very straight forward to apply for.

I was born in NZ and still hold a NZ passport.

I began to look online. 'How to complete a police check when residing outside NZ' (I'm currently in Australia) and immediately found the the NZ ministry of Justice website and what i thought was the form. There was also information on how to get the police check verified if required.

I emailed the US embassy in Sydney via support-australia@ustraveldocs.com and asked if they were happy to accept the police check from the NZ ministry of justice and if i was required to have it verified?

There response was as follows -

We do not require the criminal check to be certified, however, we will require you provide an original copy.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept a criminal check issued by the Ministry of Justice. Please see the following for instructions on how to obtain a clearance: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/NZ.html

I then followed the above link and completed the N.Z. clearance request, attached required documents and sent it directly to the United States Consulate General in Auckland, New Zealand via the AucklandIV@state.gov as directed.

I received a response today from the US consulate in NZ via a generated email with a reply -

'Please refer to the links below for specific information and guidance. If your inquiry can be answered on our website or through one of the provided links, you will not receive another reply'

Q: How can I get a New Zealand police clearance?

A: The Consulate General no longer processes police clearances for residents or former residents of New Zealand.
The applicant must apply to the Ministry of Justice to obtain a Police clearance or copy of his/her police record. The applicant should request the "Criminal Conviction Report" in writing or apply online by completing form "Priv/F1.'

So i am now back to square one, Neither US consulate knows what the other requires and I am stuck worrying about how to get required evidence for the interview. I'm ashamed that my home country is the most difficult to access.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do to overcome the issue?

Yes i did eventually resolve my dilema.

My partner had to contact his local congressman in his state for advice and additional support as we were worried it would never be resolved.

I was advised that my police check application to the US Embassy in Auckland had been accepted and forwarded to the consulate in Sydney ready for interview date.

They apologised for the conflicting information and explained that they were changing the current process. ( they didn't explain to what)

I recieved a confirmation email stating they have recieved it.

I plan to bring a long a print out of the email to my interview just in case they say otherwise.

Thank you so much for your response. I was told one thing by the NZ courts, and then read what was on the reciprocity site, THEN saw something completely different on a forum here, so I was so confused! I'll plan to follow what the US says to do. How long did it take you to get the confirmation email after emailing the request?

The confirmation came within 24 hours.

You wont recieve a copy of the police report. It is sent directly to the Embassy you are applying from.
