If this post is repeated, I am very sorry but my fiance and I need some help. We have searched so many forums, clicked so many links, and we now need help. I have found some very helpful forums but they are from previous years and I know there has been many updates on the visa sites. I've uploaded two screen shots. One is what happens when we check our status...it says Ready and it's time to schedule the interview. However, when you go to do that, it says wait until you get packet 4. Now before you check on that, it says make sure you get packet 3. And now the other screen shot shows forms we've never heard of to fill out and send who knows where.

When we click the link on the Ready popup, it takes us to a completely different site providing info to prepare for the interview and never mentions packet 3.

Would love some recent applicants to help us. Here is what we have done

  • NOA 1 & 2 complete
  • NVC complete
  • Case number assigned
  • DS-160 completed online with confirmation
  • Registered for the interview site...did not schedule one yet.

Any help or links or anything current is so appreciated. Thank you!!

Did you get packet 3? I got this by email I believe. You need to do that then you get packet 4 and then schedule your interview, then schedule your medical to occur prior to your interview. Once you send the packet 3 pages back it goes quickly.

No, we have not received anything regarding packet 3. We do have the pdf that is floating around asking for the checklist, biographic passport scan and DS160 bar code scan. We are going to email those, is that correct? And the checklist, we just need the police report so is it okay to send it if he is going Friday to get the report?

Thanks so much.

Exactly.

I had my interview in May, Once I had my MTL number and knew it arrived at the consulate, I started preparing my Packet 3. It's super easy. I printed the packet 3 checklist, checked all the things I had (I don't have death/divorce, court and Military so I just put N/A on that line).

On the P3 you have the email adress where you have to send that checklist (Just scan it, or if you don/t have a scanner there are some applications on smartphone that work really well, I used Tiny scanner). You title it that way ;

“CASE_NUMBER – DS-160 CEAC # BARCODE”

Usually, they are quick on coming back to you , they sent an email telling me I wasd good to schedule my interview the next day.

I see you are approved - CONGRATULATIONS!! Thank you for the information. So we can move forward with the packet 3 process without officially having it send to us? Also, can we checkmark the police record if he is about to get that done and we know nothing will come of it?

I actually never filled DS-156 haha, Maybe fill it to be sure it could be something added recently!

I received the physical copy of P3 about 2 weeks after I sent it by email, it takes so long. Did you go to the police station? I went there on a Thursday and it was ready the monday. I'd say you can check it if you know it'll be quick.

By the way, were did you read about DS-156? I don't see it anywhere on the Montreal US Consulate website

I never did a 156 either. I gathered the packet 3 docs and faced it back. Almost immediately they gave me next step. My experience was same as chalandraae.

I had my interview July 8, was approved and now just waiting for the passport.

You can go ahead and send packet 3 and yes, you can check off things that you don't actually have right now. They don't know you don't have it, but you HAVE to have it by your interview. At the moment it looks like October is the earlier for Vancouver and September is the earlier for Montreal, so you have roughly a month and a half to two months to get all the papers together.

You can not schedule anything until you have premission though, so you need to send packet 3 to them. They will e-mail you back with Packet 4 and the approval to schedule the interview.

Either way, myself and a few others recently did as it says to do in this: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf

Others who have followed the above Packet 3 info have successfully gotten Packet 4 and scheduled their appointments.

I had to pay it while scheduling the interview. keep in mind these forms are pretty generic and I believe you only bring cash if the embassy scheduled your interview itself, if not you pay while scheduling.

Hi there! I'm in a similar situation to you! The crazy thing is that the CEAC status said ready today! It wasn't even pulling anything yesterday and when I called NVC last night, they said that our file had been sent to Montreal yesterday. So I'm really rubbing my eyes that our file is already at the consulate?

I have our packet 3 ready to go.. Just wondering if you did send the packet 3 without receiving packet 3 and if you've heard anything back yet?

Thanks!!
