With a GoFundMe page in action, the whole story Looks like a scam to convince gullible anti-Big Government types to fork over the dough to help a poor, oppressed Christian couple. Just like the Oregon anti-gay 'Christian' bakers.

Yeah, and that's why they chose to have a UK website run the story. bahahahahaha

Daily Mail web site just aggregates stories, and in this case just repeated what the Family said.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

An Air Marshal sat next to her, I presume to insure she didn't escape.

That was my favourite line of the entire article.

Everybody should have a GoFundMe page.

Newlyweds forced apart after six days of marriage when the wife was deported to Russia at the end of their honeymoon cruise

  • Joshua and Liza Hedges were returning from Mexico after July 3 wedding
  • Immigration officers said Liza, 18, was in the country illegally because her tourist visa was under her maiden name and thus now invalid
  • Officers said Liza was also supposed to state she was getting married when she entered the country two weeks prior
  • But Joshua was told by Immigration Services that he did not need to file anything to change Liza's status, information he found out was incorrect
  • The couple have been separated again after having a long-distance relationship for two years

"Joshua didn't file to have Liza's status changed because he was told it was unnecessary by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services."

Aha, in other news, he was also told by an unknown source that pigs fly

Actually I would not put it past the MISINFORMATION LINE to say something as stupid as that. Nobody should trust the MISINFORMATION LINE.

That said, they're certainly at fault for not researching immigration procedures.

Still, why couldn't she go back on the tourist visa? Her intention to immigrate could not be determined just by the fact that she got married to an US citizen. Maybe they both wanted to go to his house, pack, and move somewhere else.

I think the customs officer was a bit over zealous here. There are so many who AOS on tourist visa, it's not as big of a thing as they can make you believe.

Most likely she told them she was staying.

***Moved from Tourist Visas forum to Immigration News and Discussion.***

**Moderator hat off**

The Daily Mail probably aggregated the story from here: http://www.reviewjournal.com/trending/the-feed/couple-married-utah-ripped-apart-while-trying-return-nevada

  • It's certainly plausible that he received such bad information from the USCIS line, it's not called the misinformation line here on VJ for nothing. There are plenty of examples of the operators giving out bad information.
  • The only version of events you are getting is their version and they are telling it either
    • how they remember it, perhaps too overcome with shock to remember accurately
    • telling it in a way to elicit the most sympathetic response
  • From what they say in the story or from what can be inferred, the CBP's refusal of entry was the correct course of action.
  • This whole scenario could've been avoided if they had done more research (either on their own or speaking to a competent attorney).

They married July 3 in Salt Lake City, so no, they didn't leave the U.S. in order to get married.

What they did was go to Mexico for their honeymoon without Advance Parole or a Green a Card in hand. So clearly, CBP did the correct thing and denied entry to the Russian fiancé because her recent marriage and attempt to re-enter the U.S. is inconsistent with the terms of a tourist visa.

I like when the system works as designed. This should sound a warning to others lurking in the shadows with similar cunning ploys.

But I foresee another story like this soon as folks generally think they can outsmart trained agents.

Actually it is a big thing to enter the US on a tourist visa or the VWP with the intent to AOS. It's forgiven if the person happens to be married to a USC, if married to an LPR, you're thrown out. And if they find out what you're planning, they stop you at the border and don't let you in. Just like in this case. Just because something is forgiven, doesn't mean it's right. I mean come on, I bet all my money in the bank that she was gonna stay and AOS once their honeymoon was over... The CBP officer did his job just like he was suppose to.

I have no sympathy for them. Now they get to do the visa journey the right way, instead of cheating the system.

They caused it...they told CBP because it was only 3 days they were gone

When will ppl realize that just a marriage don't allow one to stay here, the

proper process must be done.

Many ppl is in a haste to travel outside the US without GC in hand & at times

on rare occasions AP don't even work ni getting back because its up to the

CBP discretion. If there is no emergency wait for the card, don't go gallivanting

outside of the US unless the plan is to wait outside for processing .
