Checking wife's status for uncle

7 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

My uncle (US Citizen) asked me to check the status of his wife's visa petition. Do I check this on /ceac.state.gov? When I do it states 'Your search did not return any data'. He decided to use and attorney and since the petition was submitted any additional information he ask for she wants more money.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The attorney is saying it was sent to NVC but not giving a new case number. I am not sure if the case number changes for spouse of US Citizen, like it did for me when my case went from USCIS to NVC and am only finding it on USCIS.

If it has been approved aready by USCIS (use the link posted above to check), then call NVC. The NVC agent will ask for the USCIS receipt number (the one you have) plus the petitioner & beneficiary's names and dates of birth.

I doubt they will give info to you so better tell uncle to make the call.

The NVC case number is different from the USCIS receipt number.

The LIN# that you have is the USCIS receipt number.

Thanks everyone. Told him it was a receipt number he called his lawyer and she said she would get the case number to him, smh. Don't know why he even thought he needed a lawyer, my mum did her petition on her own and also her citizenship and mine was done the same way.

Thanks again for your help.
