Visiting My UK Fiancé While in the Process

Hey Guys!

I am visiting my fiancé over in Scotland in a couple months and we will be in the process of the k1 visa. Should I tell the UK border patrol that I'm coming over visiting my fiancé? Will they know that I have filed for a k1 visa in the UK?

You should never make a false claim to UK border and customs. What I mean by that is, is it your intent to visit your fiancé but you want to claim that you are just coming for tourism? Honesty is always the best policy. However, be advised that honesty means very little to UK border and customs. While many can and do successfully manage to visit their boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives/fiancés, there are instances where the UK is less than friendly and will turn you away, considering the non-EEA citizen too much of a risk. This has become even more so, since the changing of UK immigration rules and behavior towards non-EEA citizens. However, if you can bring plenty of proof that you intend to return home after your visit to cover your bases just in case, you may not encounter any issues. I say may liberally, as there are never any guarantees. Will they accept proof that the UK citizen is the one that will be doing the immigrating? Possibly, but I couldn't say for sure.

Nevertheless it certainly is possible to visit your fiancé in the UK, or they to visit you here in the US, provided you satisfy the officer. There is always the risk of success or denial either way. There are other questions you have to consider: are you female and coming by yourself? is it your first time to the UK? do you have a return ticket and travel insurance? do you have a job or education that you can prove you will return home to?

The general rule of thumb is always tell the truth and keep your answers short and simple to the question that was asked. E.g. If they ask why are you visiting the UK then it's "to visit my fiance and have a holiday together". When do you plan to get married "We have no date yet". Are you planning to remain in the UK? "No I have a flight booked on XX September to return to my job back home"

People whom "blah" tend to be the ones that get stuck with many questions! Keep it simple, truthful and stay cool

I recently traveled to the UK and had no issue at all. I told them I'm visiting my fiancé and they said do you plan to return home. I said yes, we are in the process of an American fiancé visa. She stamped my passport and I was off! Really simple. Tell the truth.

I, too, have never had an issue with the UK border. I've been 14 times. They do ask a few questions and every now and then want to see proof of my return flight, but that's it. If it's your first time maybe it will be tougher, but if you've been several times before, they will know that and that should help. A few weeks ago in Heathrow the guy flipped through my passport, said you've been here quite a few times. I said yes. He asked how long I was staying. I said 8 days. He said what do you do? I told him and then he stamped me. That was it. He never even asked why I was there.

Bring proof of your return and go for it, I say.

When my other half come to visit me she got called to one side and took in a interview room and they asked her the reason of the visit. When she told them she was visiting me they asked her questions about my address, eye colour, work place. Basic stuff. I was waiting in the airport everyone had come out and 30 mins had past then a announcement went out for me to contact the desk. The nice lady on the phone just cross referenced everything and said "Just make sure she gets on the flight home" really easy going type stuff no pressure what so ever.
