Photocopy of Tax Return for NVC Stage?

Hi All,

I've seen some conflicting instructions on the official documentation of what's needed for the taxes, at the NVC stage. In some areas it was saying the IRS transcript is needed, however, the first sentence of Section 7, Item 14 - Federal income Tax Information, for the i-864 instructions... It says...

You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year.

So should I be fine just providing the photocopy?

Here's my problem: since Australia is on a different financial year (June to June), I'm only just now filing my 2014 tax return. I'm at the NVC stage and am ready with ALL other documentation, so I don't want to have to wait until after the IRS receives my tax information. Rather, I'd prefer to just make a photocopy of the return!

My hope is that I could perhaps do that... and then get the official documentation such as the IRS transcript and previous couple years of tax information to bring to the interview (I need to update the past few years as well).

Thank you!

Yes. They prefer a transcript but a photocopy will be fine. My plan is to provide scanned copies of the return and have a copy of the transcript at the interview as we're in a similar situation.

Provide either the tax transcript OR a copy of your complete tax return with your W-2. They do not care which one they get as long as they get one or the other for the last three years. I sent in one transcript (2012) and two tax returns with W-2's (2013, 2014). We had no problems. We had to turn in updated AOS evidence at the interview.
