ELIS Time to Process

I made a CC payment on the ELIS USCIS web portal on May 27 and they acknowledged receipt. But when I go back to check the status it still shows as in process.

Maybe it's my misunderstanding (not the first time in this journey) but how long does it typically take to change? Or does it remain in this state until my asawa hits the POE? I'm not overly concerned because travel date is not until mid-September.

Still curious though.

Oh she hasn't got here yet? Oh there's no card production or anything until she gets here. The CBP at the POE gets that party started for you. It stays in process yes.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the clarification. This is such a wonderful site.

But it's still best idea to make that payment before arriving, correct? Reason I'm asking is that my step-daughter will be getting an 'A' number within the next few weeks and I want to make the POE processing in Chicago run as smooth as possible.

You paying now or later has no baring on the ease of POE. You have a year to pay the fee. Some people have no problems with the temp green card stamp in their passports. Just many just like the physical green card in their wallet.

Pay before you arrive, less headaches and GC arrives and you can smell the USA from sea to shinning sea on the scratch and sniff. :rofl:

Either way pay before or after landing. I think you have your answer.

Sometimes you get the GC faster if you pay after you arrive and your POE package has made it to the USCIS. Other times it's faster to pay before hand. Fastest I've recorded a green card coming on this site is 3 weeks after POE. They paid before hand.

One lady waited 2 months after arrival and paid the fee. Got the green card in a week.

Choice is yours.
