US Embassy Jakarta requested translation of marriage Certificate...CR1 Immigrant Visa Interview at Embassy

My wife received her interview appointment notification and required documents not included in her file list. They are asking for a Translation of the Marriage Book (Certificate). Can someone please tell us if we really need to translate it since it is in both Bahasa and English already except for the prayer and except for the husband promise? This feels like a waste of time and money for translations of a book where all the important information is actually shown in english.

Thank you for any information.

It seems to me like it shouldn't be necessary, but you would probably be better off sending an email to the immigrant visa unit and asking yourself. I email them pretty often these days (our interview is on Wednesday), and most of the time I receive a response within a day. I direct my emails to JakIV@state.gov.

Good luck, and sorry I couldn't give you a more satisfying answer.

if you DO have to translate it, you might be able to do it yourself. Did it say you needed it to be professionally translated? Or translated by a certain service? My then-fiancee was able to translate her birth certificate by herself. she just added a note declaring her fluency in both Bahasa and English.

Get it. Get at least two copies. You will need it off and on so you might as well have it.

We used one of the translation services around the corner from the embassy and it cost about 25k rupes a page. Worth every penny and worth the time.
