Address Change Shenanigans

The wife & I just moved. We're about 10 minute's drive from where we were. Our old address is my parent's house, so they still get mail there & everything. Our phase in the VJ timeline is that my wife's AOS is pending. We already have our NPIW. Here are my questions.

1) How critical is it that we change address?

2) What can happen if we don't?

It is mandatory that you change her address, it isn't an option. The USCIS requires her by law to inform them of any change of address. Period.

Change it as soon as possible. Since your wife received NPIW letter, it takes so long for these people to get approved. Have you followed this thread "Notice of Potential Interview Waver Case ? You will have better understanding for the whole process for NPIW.

I mentioned about NPIW because your wife received NPIW, I don't want to lecture you but at least you will have any idea what you will deal with the process. I just give you a suggestion - something I wished someone told me earlier- so I will be more knowledgable about what is going on with my AoS.

Waiting over 15 months without knowing anything about your case? Someone had this experience. Probably you and your wife won't be disgruntled wait for more than a year and don't know what is going on. So, just ignored my suggestion then.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did briefly browse that forum after 1st hearing about the NPIW, a few months before my wife actually received hers, but I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of posts in there. What I do know about it is that it will likely take so long for my wife to receive her GC that we will have to reapply for her EAD/AP about 90 days before it expires. Additionally, we will be notified by USCIS that her medical expired & we will need to pay for another one. I also understand that the entire wait for her GC could be anywhere from about 11-16 months or so. Is there anything that I missed?

It is not only medical. They can send you any nonsense RFE. Have you sent your marriage certificate? Yes. Oh well, they can also send you RFE for that -probably they have lost it somewhere-. I read about NPIW AFTER I received my letter but never knowing my case was never in my local office. If I knew it earlier I won't sit and checked my local office processing times whole times.

If they ask for something, I'll simply provide it, even if I already did. We can only do what they ask us to do. OK I'm confused about some stuff (one thing actually). On the AR-11, what does my wife put in the blank that states "If not a Permanent Resident, my stay in the US expires on:"? She has a pending AOS.

Timed out while trying to edit my post. Realized we don't need to do AR-11. We're completing a form here instead: https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do. I will still do the I-865 though.

Online form would not allow itself to be submitted, after my wife completed the whole thing twice. So we wound up mailing the AR-11 anyway. I just left the space blank about "If not a Permanent Resident, my stay in the US expires on".

Until the green card is issued, you merely call the USCIS and inform them off the new address. You do not complete an AR-11 or I-865.
