Things allowed/forbidden inside interview room

Hey guys,

Is mobile phone allowed to be carried inside the interview hall ? I mean be it switched off I dont mind. The problem is I dont have any relative in Mumbai where my interview is scheduled. So I cannot handover mobile phone to anyone and hotel is not the best place to keep your belongings.

They have mentioned in their website that they dont allow mobile phones, belt or any electronic gadgets inside.

So were you forbidden to carry any of the things ?

If it says it on their site what is the question here? FYI all U.S. embassies forbid it, it's not an embassy specific rule.

If you don't trust it in the room at your hotel, leave it at the front desk. Hide it in your hotel room somewhere....There's always a way.

No phones, electronics, cameras, bags, nothing but your essential documents basically.


Not sure if the embassy there has, but the embassy here has a locker area for persons to lock away their personals that are inadmissible.

9th July 2015 - Medical (too many needles :/ )

21st July 2015 - Interview date :goofy:

12th August 2015 - Issued

13th August 2015 - Visa in hand via DHL

24th August 2015 - US arrival (POE MIA)

I asked it again, because some of the embassies (e.g. Warsaw, Poland) allow to leave it with security personnel. And thus I posted it in the regional forum, so that only people went through Mumbai Embassy may throw some light on the issue.

Thanks for the tip though, I will try to make arrangements beforehand.

Thats what I am confused. Their website says they dont provide any lockers etc to store the personal belongings. But some people have experience that Embassies are not as stricter as they describe.

Cell phones are not permitted in the Mumbai Embassy. No lockers provided either. Try to make other arrangements. Is there a safe in your hotel room? If not, like the other posters mentioned, leave it at the front desk turned off or hide it in your room or lock it in a suitcase. Best of luck on your interview!
