International Birth Certificate

Hey everyone,

My wife has a certified international birth certificate from her native county. Are International Birth Certificates ok to submit to the NVC?

I had a international birth certificate as well and had no issue's. In short it has to be in English and most international birth certificates are in 5 or 6 languages.

Quick follow-up question... my wife's IBC is coming from Serbia. Would English not be written anywhere on the birth certificate? Or are you saying it needs translating?

Some consulates and embassies require a translation and others do not. If she is not interviewing in the country of her birth then a translation would be likely be necessary.

Check the embassy's webpage what they need. If your not sure call them or play safe and get a certified translation. A lot do need a translation into English

You do know that if you check Reciprocity by Country

You will be able to see all the specialized details you need for your birth certificate. Right?

We emailed the consulate in Naples and they said that the International Birth Certificate would be fine at interview. However, we are trying to find out if the NVC shares the same opinion?

Yes. The NVC is a document intake facility. They do not approve or deny anything, merely check for completeness and correctness to make the interview process go as easily on the CO as possible.
