I am in Vermont, USA. I paid here the $240 fee for the k1 visa application. Now, my fiance in the Dominican Republic must pay a $265 fee for interview? Does this sound correct?

I just want to make sure I am not double paying.

Yep, it sad but true. We had to pay the same amount also.

What gets me is that you can easily come to America from our southern borders and sneak across and enter the usa for free, Illegally but that don't seem to matter much for most..

It says the earliest interview date is July 7. I guess after she pays the visa fee, I log back in, enter receipt number and it will show list of dates available for the interview?

..hmm... can't help wondering if the amount you are fined when caught sneaking across the border should be based on the fees for a complete K1 visa...say what approx $3100 ?

.....then we could also have a fee lottery where randomly someone trying to come to the country legally got their fees paid by an illegal being caught... :)

That would be a good to issue a fine. Most people who are caught trying to enter illegally are just sent back at the checkpoint at POE. Or if they are caught in USA they get a free bus ride back to Mexico.

I know a younger guy who has been deported 7 times in the last 10 years, Three times was for possession of cocaine, I don't know the rest. He has never paid any fines or had to serve more than a couple days in jail. When he gets deported he is back in few weeks....

Get used to fees OP. Also, just get used to spending money. And being patient.

This is only the beginning.

AOS fees.

removal of condition fees

And if citizenship is being sought, then there are fees for that.... But you can get waiver depending on income.

Then there is the waiting. Easier to marry a local. Mind you with some state railing against marriage it might not be so easy to get married anymore in the US.

You can't fine someone that has nothing. That's usually why they are coming here. It would be great if it worked that way though. I think the countries that charge to live in them are the way to go. Needing to pay quarterly or yearly fees would pay for the deportation of the ones that tried to cheat the system. What really needs to happen is employers need to face jail time for hiring illegals so they don't risk it. The system is horrible.

I couldnt agree more, but there is money to pay the people smugglers...and I recall that even when deported, if you are illegal and have been paying tax, you can claim a tax refund - seriously it's true....

So ...there is money there....but hey - if there was an easy answer....

Its almost like marriage for hire...if you don't have money you cant have love.. I think the process is outrageous. I certainly will not debate the issue of bringing another person here to live off tax dollars but sheesh look at what types of BS our government funds...wars etc.. it should be free to file or at least a minimal cost even making the poverty guidelines." if we can afford to take care of our spouses, there should be no cost to bring them here" actually for the work done on my petition all the hours spent waiting, RFE's AP at NVC fees for this that and the other in my fiancés country...If I thought I could ask for a refund I would on the grounds of poor customer service..:)
