Just received our NOA2!!!!

We just received our NOA2 and are super excited after a long, 6 month wait!

On the letter, it says "Approval Notice" then on the next line it says "Valid from 06/23/2015 to 10/22/2015"

Can someone explain what the October expiry date is all about? What happens if the interview is scheduled after that date?

What should we expect to happen next? Will the beneficiary be contacted from this point on?

First of all.. Congratulations on NOA2.

To answer the question:

Thats because your approval is valid for 4 months only.

If you don't proceed with the case i.e. submission of police certificates, medicals and lastly interview within next 4 months, the approval will expire.

Most of the time as long as you have an interview booked, the consulate will automatically extend the petition approval for another 4 months.

Yes, like NLR said, the expiration is not really that important because it can be extended.

9 FAM 41.81 N6.2 Validity of a K-1 Petition
(CT:VISA-2165; 08-21-2014)

An approved K-1 visa petition is valid for a period of four months from the date of USCIS action and may be revalidated by the consular officer any number of times for additional periods of four months from the date of revalidation, provided the officer concludes that the petitioner and the beneficiary remain legally free to marry and continue to intend to marry each other within 90 days after the beneficiary's admission into the United States. However, the longer the period of time since the filing of the petition, the more the consular officer must be concerned about the intentions of the couple, particularly the intentions of the petitioner in the United States. If the officer is not convinced that the U.S. citizen petitioner continues to intend to marry the beneficiary, including instances where no action has been taken on the application for a year (while refused under INA 221(g)), the petition should be returned to the approving office of USCIS with an explanatory memorandum. (See 9 FAM 41.81 PN5 for revalidation procedure.)
