So I went to the SSA office yesterday, and the person tells me i need a I-94 "card". I had the I-94 paper with me with my entry last friday.. He said no go and wait till immigration sends me the I-94 "card". I asked what that was, and he said its the samw as the paper i had printed out but just as a card... ?? He said contact immigration to get this card. I might be totally off here, but i have read nothing about this card?? Help?? Thank you guys!! Camilla!

card doesn't exist anymore.

what does exist is the electronic version, which you printed off to show to the clerk, right?

go back, ask for supervisor, ask for SAVE database lookup in VISA name or A#.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

He didnt know what SAVE was zzz i asked if the system he was talking about was thr SAVE. And he got rude and said he knows not of that system but come back when its been 10 days since my arrival with thr card. I printed out the I-94 from US border control with my new entry. He said well they need to send me a card. And border control knows nothing of what we need at thr SSA office. In general a rude annoying experience. He didnt look at me. Only my fiance when the clerk answered my questions. Im not wrong right?? Its all electronic? No card given at all?? Nor will i if im right?

clerk was a 'tardo.

when you go back, immediately ask for a SAVE database lookup. If the next clerk sputters or is hesitant, immediately ask for a supervisor. Clerks at the windows not have all the same training. tis a sad state of existence, but it is what it is.

i've a how-to over at

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/405546-ssn-howto/

it needs some updating, but you might want to read it [and as a k-1, can be found in the SAVE db within a day after poe date]

My wife had no problem applying for the SSN at the SSA office. If they continue to ask for the I-94 "card", show them your print out. At the bottom of your I-94, it should read, "An alien lawfully admitted or paroled into the U.S. is no longer required to be in possession of a preprinted Form I-94. A record of admission printed from the CBP website constitutes a lawful record of admission..."

Good luck!

I addition of what Tuzi and Nui mentioned, most states require a SSC to apply for a drivers license or state ID.

Good luck with the SSA. They really don't know anything with regard to immigration.

Hi :)

Tell your fiance you will need it to have your own bank account or start joint bank accounts, apply for insurances, and state or driver's license. Some marriage license application requires it too. Also, to save your name on the SSA office SAVE database ( you can research regarding the SAVE ) :)

Sorry about your experience on the SSA office, I guess the guy you talked to was just not aware at all on the I-94 process. I guess you can go back another day on SSA office and maybe this time, you can print the rules or instructions about I-94 or ask for a Supervisor if possible. Regards. :)

Go back and hopefully get a different SSA worker that knows more than the ignoramus you happened to get.

A K-1 is a legal alien allowed to work. That is what you check off on the form. You can use the SSN for different types of accounts and getting a license or state ID. You cannot work until you have the SSN and the EAD or green card, but getting the SSN allows you to work as soon as you get the EAD in your hand. You don't have to get it until you want to work and have your EAD, but you are eligible as a K-1 entrant. https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

There is no I-94 card. You will not be sent one. They are automated and electronic now, and you print it off from online, just as you did. You can print out info directly from the CBP website in case you run into more SSA workers severely in need of educating themselves about their own jobs >

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1694/kw/I-94%20Automation/session/L3RpbWUvMTQzNTQ2NDQxMS9zaWQvcFhQVFAtcG0%3D

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1687/kw/I-94%20Automation

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1688/kw/I-94%20Automation

Sample, and on the bottom, you will see it states it has been automated for 2 years now and that the printout from their website is the I-94, lawful record of admission > http://oiepull-105d.kxcdn.com/sites/default/files/imce/DocumentImages/i-94_part_ii.jpg
