NOA1 date of April 23, 2015 through California and still haven't gotten NOA2 yet...

Hey all!,

My name's Chris and my fiancée Becca and I have filed for my K-1 so I may go into the wonderful land of America to marry her and stay :).

I'm Canadian and we got our NOA1 notice date of April 23, 2015. Checking processing dates of other people in similar situations (Canadians who have filed for their K-1 visas being processed through the California office), we are getting a little worried that our NOA2 hasn't come through yet as it has for others in similar situations with NOA1 dates around the same time, some even by weeks or more.

Is there anything I should be worried about? We have sufficient reason to believe our application package was pretty rock solid as the only thing they asked us to fix on it was one signiture on one page of one part of the application, nothing else. It was fixed right away and that NOA1 date is the date after the package had been returned and accepted for processing.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. The customer service with the USCIS is difficult and not letting me find a way to get through to an actual person to ask a question, nor is it able to access updates through the automated system via phone.

Thanks bunches in advance!,

- Chris and Becca

Nothing to worry about at all. Ever since USCIS has started routing all new K-1 petitions two CSC exclusively (instead of breaking it up between CSC and TSC), the CSC has just gotten a little slower. It's still nothing near the 8+ month long wait time for the TSC filers from November 2014 through March 2015.

Thanks! It's just... really frustrating when it feels like everyone else is having theirs go through *much* faster than ours and I'm just getting impatient and want to marry my fiancée as I love her very much :P.

Also... as she has the receipt notice, is there anything we were supposed to do with it when we got it, like reply to anything or send in some official acknowledgement that we had received it, or does it just say to wait?

Hello Chris and Becca!

(My fiancee and I are Chase and Becca, and I am also Canadian - I got a giggle :))

Anyways my NOA1 date was April 9th and NOA2 was June 10th - a wonderful 62 days. I totally felt the same way as you - it's difficult watching other CSC filers fly by you in half the amount of time (sorry TSC, not even gonna go there with that one... you all have my greatest sympathy).

I'm sure you will get it any day now. At this point CSC's averages are getting longer. Based on yours, some others, and my application, I would suggest that anything over 80 days at CSC would mean you were super unlucky when the random vacationer picked up your pile. Otherwise, hang in there, 99% sure there is nothing wrong with your application - processing is just slooooow, and unfortunately for no reason at all some have to wait a lot longer than others.

This part is the hardest - when you get your NOA2 you will be so happy and wished you hadn't wasted so much time worrying about it!!

Haha... thanks Chase and Becca! The waiting seriously is the worst, isn't it? You can't plan anything when you're waiting. We're wanting to get married Oct. 3rd, but if we have to move it (either direction... and if earlier... AWESOME : |), it would just be nice to... know, y'know? That way, we're expecting that and can plan for it and around it instead of the awful unknown. ;P

Still better than two very dear friend of mine who were regulars at a Starbucks I used to work at who did this process a decade ago and start-to-finish took 18 months. : /

After you get the USCIS receipt number, you can create an account here (https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/disclaimer.do)

Then you can turn on our electronic notifications for a text/email once the NOA2 is issued. Even if you submitted the e-notification with the petition, you need to go and set them all to Y. Right now, they will be at N.

Other than that, you wait for the NOA2, then wait about 2-3 weeks to call NVC immigrant line to get the case number.

So you don't call the NVC until you get the NOA2?

And we already have the account set up online. For the first while, the system was acting up and wouldn't show anything as far as case status goes, then once a few weeks ago, we accidentally tried to log in at the same time and the account got locked out, so I think Becca has sorted that out, but I just need to get the new password and see if anything has changed.

Right. CSC takes longer to transfer the approved cases to NVC than TSC does. Once you get the NOA2, you won't know when it's at NVC until you call. TSC sends a message when it's been transferred and seems to send them sooner. Then NVC sends them to the embassy within a week or so.

You're good. Just make sure you have the information the embassy will need and research the rest of the process the best you can.
