Hi,

We have applied for I-130 for my IR1/CR1 visa and expecting to receive NOA2 by next month. The thing is, the name I mentioned on my form was Fxxxxx Nxxxxx and now I have added my husband's last name, Sxxxxx, to it. So it's Fxxx Nxxxx Sxxxx now. I have got my name changed on my Pakistan ID card and will be going to get a new passport with my new name on it very soon.

What I want to know is, when should I inform them of this name change without making the process complicated? Some people say that I should just tell them during interview to issue visa on my new name or just inform them by mail when NVC receives my case. Which is the best and hassle free option? I don't want them go like ''WOAH!! Who is this Sxxxx girl? We were expecting Ms. Nxxxx here'' during interview.

Please tell me the best option I should go for.

Thanks in advance :)

At this point you would change your name on the DS-261 and DS-260 after that and have the US citizen change your name on the I-864. This will not be an issue.

Hi,

We have applied for I-130 for my IR1/CR1 visa and expecting to receive NOA2 by next month. The thing is, the name I mentioned on my form ....

Hi! I did the same thing. I got my hubby's last name after applying to I130. Then my legal advisor said I can fill out ds 260 and ds 261 forms with my new last name. She said what matters are those 2 forms are filled with your new last name. Cause that's the name you will get your visa on. And you also kept your maiden last name so it will appear on your visa too. And also they will ask you to bring photocopies of your old passports to the interview. So they will see that it is you. :)

Hi, so I have filled out DS-261 until now and as you guys said, mentioned my new name on that form but still all the emails I am receiving from NVC related to IV bill and choice of agent and stuff, show my previous/old name.

Should I be worried about it right now or wait till I have submitted DS-260?

I was in a similar situation and used my new last name, even though it is not on my passport yet. I provided a document stating my legal name change from Swiss authorities at both the USCIS and NVC stage.

I was told by USCIS that they are understanding to these things, especially when you're a newlywed. I also had my maiden name on all bank accounts/leases/etc. that were sent with AOS package, though the application is under my new last name.
