Hi guys,

I would love to receive a clarification from you.

My wife recently got a Case Complete; her PD is 09 April 2014 and I applied for her (I am the petitioner) at the US embassy in London (as I used to live there).

What I would like to understand is whether or not something else - except from the PD - comes to play in the interview's scheduling waiting time.

In other words, for instance, does the CC's date play a role as well (together with the PD)?

Does the location of filing matter in terms of lenght of the process (I don't know, maybe one place is less busy that the other one)?

OR (which is the option I agree more with) only the PD determines your place in line?

Thank you very much for your helping me in understanding the process!!

@ Daniel - you have to be case complete and your PD has to be current in order to be scheduled for an interview. Both things have to occur.

If you are not CC but your PD is current, you will not be scheduled (which was what happened to me for 1 month)

So, even though you are CC - your PD is not current that is why you haven't been scheduled you.

it wont be long now for you though so best of luck!

Thank you for the answer, sbai2000!

Ok, now it is much clearer :)

At this point I guess the only thing that I'd like to understand is whether or not the place one has applied affects the lenght of the process or not.

For instance, let's say that - as soon as my PD becomes current - the NVC sends my wife's case to the US embassy in London (as I believe that is the process, isn't it?); the fact that the US embassy in London is less busy than another place (don't get me wrong, I am just assuming it is like that - as it may also be the opposite scenario :) ) may determine that my PD gets processed before than an earlier PD managed by a busier location?

I hope I explained well what I mean :)

@ Daniel - yes the embassy schedules/business does affect how quickly your interview is scheduled.

I do have a question for you: Are you f2 or CR1/2? I ask because you stated that you are the petitioner but applied to through the US embassy in London. Not sure how that's possible. If you are F2 would you not have had to apply in the US?

Hello sbai2000, thank for your reply and for confirming that the place where you apply may affect the duration of the process (like I thought).

Yes, I am the petitioner for a F2A - just like you guys :) - but I filed in London because at that time I was living there, matching the requirement for the direct consular filing.

However, I am not a US citizen and therefore enjoyed of only some of the advantages of the DCF in London.

And in fact, other that getting approved at the USCIS stage pretty fast (provided that the documents are in order, of course), the rest of the process follows the ordinary timeframe.

That is why I am waiting in line just like you but hoping that having applied in London (where my wife resides and will have her interview) may still give me some benefits :)

May I ask you if you received the DS-260's confirmation email?

Like I wrote in a specific thread that I started, the NVC did not send me and my wife that confirmation and really don't know if it is an important document that needs to be provided at time of interview.

And in fact, although I called the NVC - making sure the case complete is not affected by that missing confirmation - on VJ forum, there are different opinions about the importance of the above mentioned paper.

Thanks!!

@Daniel - thanks for the clarification.

yes I got an email confirming DS-260.....but if I recall (too tired right now to double check!), the DS-260 email was just a duplicate of the confirmation page that you print off when you complete the DS-260.

The email is important, to the extent that you will need to bring the attached DS-260confirmation page to the interview. But if you already have the DS-260 confirmation page you're fine.

If your petition was filed at USCIS London office (DCF) then your case never goes to NVC.

London embassy website says:

If the immigrant visa petition was filed with USCIS at the Embassy in London, the approved petition will be sent to the Immigrant Visa Unit and they will process your application. Click here for further information. http://london.usembassy.gov/iv/iv_application_instructions.html

You will not send any documents or fees to NVC or get a checklist or case complete from them. You will save months of time. When your priority date is current your case will go straight to the Immigrant Visa Unit in London for processing. The instructions for you are in that link. Don't do anything until the Immigrant visa unit says they got your case from the USCIS London office. (same building, but different parts of the government)

When you are notified that you may begin then......

Do the DS-260 online

Gather your documents like birth certificate, police certificate, etc

Make a medical appointment by calling Knightsbridge clinic

Attend the medical exam

Do a readiness for interview form online

Then wait for the embassy to give you an interview date. You should hear from them by letter 2-3 weeks after your medical reaches them.

Go to the interview with all your documents.

Very different process than the others you are discussing with in this thread. They deal with NVC and NVC gives out the interview date.

Read the link for your DCF process.

Hello sbai2000, thanks a lot for your answer.

If you may actually double check (take your time, I am not in rush :) ) and let me know whether or not the email they were supposed to send me and my wife is the same of the page one prints after completion of DS-260, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Anyways, I need to print it because I have not done that when I completed the form for my wife (it is very strange as I am normally very cautious and carefull when it comes to this kind of stuff).

In order to get the confirmation page, I guess that I am going to follow what said in a thread linked by the very kind Habel.

Nich-Nick, I knew I would create confusion (exactly how I did almost one year and half ago when I decided to apply in London :) ).

Basically, like I wrote in a previous post, when I had to apply for my wife I did some research on VJ and found out that - although I was not an US citizen (therefore not eligible for the DCF) - I could have followed the "initial part" of the DCF in London as I had the requirements for that.

In particular, I was residing for more than 6 months in London at time of applying.

I made the decision to apply in London - even though, like I said there is NOT difference in term of duration of the process - because realized that the USCIS stage (basically from NOA1 to NOA2) is dealt much quicker at the embassy in London.

Ad in fact, I got my NOA2 in one month :)

Also the documents I had to send, there was some difference (that I do not remember now) that makes the process easier paper wise.

However, as I said, other than that the process for me follows the ordinary path and after I got approved at the USCIS stage, the US embassy in London sent my wife's papers to the NVC in Rochester where they were kept in a drawer till the 15 of may when my wife (and me, as the petitioner) got the welcome letter.

I sent the documents to the NVC at the mid of july and got CC the 28th of the same month.

Hope this helps to clarify potential confusion :)
