How hard was it to get your first job after getting your ead? I am a US BSN-RN with 1+ years experience in labor and delivery. Was just wondering how hard it is to get a hospital job. I don't live in a big city, by the way.. Lol I live in the country and there's a hospital near me that I will be sending my application to soon. I'm just curious for answers based on personal experiences:) thanks!

My wife is a RN in Philippines about to take NCLEX here, I have done extensive research.

And of course finding a job is based upon location, I understand people in California are having hard time finding RN jobs due to the large amount of people looking for work

I would say it's good you have 1 year work experience, I not sure about living in small city if that's good or bad.

I understand the job market in Dallas area is fairly good, but some are having to work a Long term care facilities before finding hospital work.

The constant issue I keep seeing is you only need a 2 year degree to be a RN in USA and many go to community college and thus there are a lot more people looking for RN jobs. And it seems many employers don't care if you have and Associate or Bachelors degree I understand the pay is about the same.

Good luck and hope to see others comments

The options in a small town can be limited, so you may want to check out clinics and long-term care facilities.

Also, you could find out if the hospital has a volunteer program. Volunteering could help you get your foot in the door. However, volunteering at a hospital in the U.S. is vastly different than volunteering in 'Pinas. The volunteers in U.S. hospitals are not involved in any type of patient care. Usually, they shuffle papers and run errands. But, you would get to know the staff and, in time, land a job there.

RN here...really a lot depends where u live......I know a few that have to drive a fair bit to get to work

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I think you are right about location, there are some areas that are saturated with RN's, but most need help, especially nursing homes. I am an RN and it didn't take me long to get a job. I worked at a Rehab center for under a year right after I got my license. A year later I was working in a hospital. Hospitals for the most part want BSN nurses, especially those who have at least 1 year experience due to the MAGNET status most hospitals are going for. For me, even though I have a good sized hospital 2 minutes from my house, as my first job and hospital job, I had to travel 40 minutes to work daily. Hopefully OP you find a job soon.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Thank you:) I appreciate it:) Is the hiring process long over here? Or do they tell you right away if you got the job or not? Lol

I noticed that if you have atleast 1 yr experience as a nurse, you will be able to find jobs compared to new grads.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it:)

Depends how desperate they are. But some can take months, others just a few weeks.

My wife was hired as an RN at a private long-term care facility on the same day she interviewed, which was a couple of weeks after she applied.

The hiring process for her job with the Feds took about three months.

This is truem Long term facilities are short handed and in desparate need. Not hard to get job there.
