SSN officer: Go to DHS.gov website and change name on I-94?

Hi, guys! My husband and I went to the social security office in Malden, MA. I changed my surname to my husband's name after getting married and the officer gave us our receipt showing this: FIRST NAME MAIDEN SURNAME (middle name) HUSBAND'S surname (as last name). The SS officer asked if I "changed my name on the I-94". I said no, and didn't know how to. I asked if we have to come back to the SS office she said, it's not necessary we just have to "change my name" on the I-94 on the DHS.GOV website because my married name is not showing on the records.

She did however, assure us that she has submitted our request.

Can anyone help me find how to change my name on the DHS.gov? Thanks :)

Hi dynm,

As to your question, actually I went to SSA office at our place in Arizona after we got married but they never told me to change my name on the I-94 nor go to DHS.gov to change it (did change my name too with same format as yours), the woman there just look at my I-94, marriage certificate and gave me a receipt and after 2 weeks I got my SS card. Then, when I got my GC, I did went again to SSA office this time here at Massachusetts and they did not say anything about it, they just gave me also the receipt. I think they are the ones responsible for it to update your name as well as USCIS for their records. Correct me if I'm wrong but I never change my name on DHS.gov at all. Regards.

You can't change your name on the I-94... more bad information from SSA personal.

When you file your I-485 (Adjustment of Status) you use your married name on all DOCUMENTS! You green card will then arrive in your married name.

I have a receipt addressed to my Married name and a reference number. Is that what you mean by number?

No.

Next day arrival (by you) is important,

as

you will either GET the SSN (not the card, just the number)

or learn of new problems,

such as

1. file sent out for DHS verification or

2. since clerk screwed it all up, supervisor denied the application and all processing stopped.

seriously, go back the next day after applying.

Hi, guys!

After almost 2 hrs of waiting, we finally got an SSA officer who knows what she's doing. Long story short, she agreed to have the "PENDING" application in my married name CANCELLED and CHANGED it to my maiden name. She then turned her computer screen to us showing how the system recognized the info in my maiden name. So, she gave us a new receipt addressed to my maiden name, stating that the Social Security card will arrive in 2 weeks. We'll start working on the AOS. Thank you all so much for the advice!

you can do silly things like participate in usa society, with a ss number..
