No fireworks here in AZ... too dry! Just a barbecue and then watched some baseball. I don't think my in-laws do too much on the 4th by the looks of it!

I've been on holiday in the US for during the 4th - was in Boston and that was great fun! Seems a lot more relaxed out here in Phoenix though.

Yeah, Dove is made by Mars, I just found there to be a strange after taste from it. Same when I tried Cadbury chocolate over here (and in Japan!) too. Maybe I'll give it another go and see!

Hereshey make it under license here in the US and the have really messed it up or as they would tell you, adjusted the ingredients to suite American taste. But then again Kraft foods owns Cadburys in the UK now and they are messing with the product as well. Look what they did to the Creme Egg recently.

How is everyone's AOS journey going? Checked my status today and apparently as of yesterday my AOS petition is ready for an interview and one is to be scheduled for me. Should I expect to hear from them via snail mail soon or is this another "it might take a while" step? I was expecting a lengthy wait due to Denver's processing times for AOS.

That's awesome you're ready for an interview! We're still waiting here. Our case hasn't been touched since June 8th, had our biometrics done on the 1st. However, we haven't received an RFE yet, either-so I guess that's a good thing!!!

Quite a few May filers got RFE's early on, so if you've not heard anything now then I'd assume you're in the clear . You might even avoid an interview!

Is it weird that I kind of want an interview? Just because I hear the green card arrives quicker instead of with an interview waiver.

Not weird to me. I wished the same thing because all the interview people were getting the greencard faster. The quicker the greencard is issued, the quicker you start counting three years to be eligible for citizenship (if that is your plan).

On a chatty note, we took our cat in for a vaccine yesterday. There was a long wait so I wandered down to a new coffee/tea/sandwich shop that had opened since we were last there, just to check it out. The guy explained their sandwiches were Chinese style. He had lived in Taiwan five years and had met his wife there. So I asked if they did the visa thing. He started explaining petition, fiancé visa, marry, etc. to me, as well as a website called Visa Journey. I just smiled. They were adorable and so eager in their new business venture.

You could have helped them on VJ in the past and there you were in person! How funny. I'm curious, did you ever research/go through the process of becoming a British citizen?

chris - I did wonder about the difference in issue times based on whether people get an interview or not.

I wanted to pursue British citizenship through my dad but I missed the boat when I found out that I could do it.

If things pan out how we hope, I imagine Kas and I will return to the UK eventually.

Whats the top 5 things you miss or will miss when you move. Can be regional stuff aswell but add an explanation. Leave out the obvious stuff like parents and friends as we will all miss them.

I gotta say HP sauce for me (Cant believe the nation that loves bacon as much as it does doesn't do HP sauce it's the only sauce I know that can make bacon go from being great to outstanding) Cask ale of the British variety, Parmo (regional to Teesside - breaded chicken breast flattened, deep fried. then béchamel sauce and cheddar cheese added and put under the grill. Loads of garlic mayo on the side) Fish & Chips. Tried them in Bend Oregon sign said "The Best Fish and Chips in America" I think the sign was one huge typo.

I'm sure when I get there I will miss loads of stuff I just take for granted i.e instant coffee but for the foreseeable future I can live with that or until the parents send SOS supplies

I'm just catching up on this thread, and I'm the USC, but my husband is from up north and I have to agree that Parmo has to be one of the best things ever invented! What more could you ask for? Breaded, fried chicken with melted cheese and bechamel sauce...

Chris, how long do you think it will take for Kas to get his EAD? I've read that it can take months?
