Question on receiving payments without an EAD

Hello all,

As the title says, I have a question regarding payments received by US companies for independent work.

I am still in my own country, researching on AOS stuff, but I have had two US sources of income for the past two years. One is from royalties received for books I have published with a US publisher. The other is from freelance work which I do with no job contract - I'm part of a team, get assignments done, and receive payment through PayPal. I file taxes in my own country regarding all this income, plus a W-8 on the US side.

Of course now with EAD soon to come into play, I'm unsure on what happens regarding all this. Does anyone know? I want to continue working, and of course royalty payments don't stop, but I don't know how this fits in with the legality of K1-AOS work. I am confident I can ask for payments to be held off between my arrival in the US and until my EAD card comes in, but wanted to make sure I'm doing everything legally. What about if I get another book published?

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

Hi,

Royalties are okay since its derived from work before you enter on the K-1.

You can not do free lance work and postpone your payment. That's illegal work without an EAD for which you will be compensated (regardless when you get paid). You can not do this.

Oh, that makes sense.

What about writing/selling a new book? Would that be considered work as well?
