Does my husband need new SS card?

My husband got his visa last week and has been in the states for a week now!!! So big thank you to everyone on this forum for helping with the process and answering questions! My husband has worked in the states before on a work visa and was issued a social security number and card which says valid for work only. Will he need a new SS card since he's here on a different visa now?

Yes, definitely get him the SS card without restrictions. It's free and will make his life easier as all he needs for work proof is SSN and DL. No need to show his GC to anyone for employment purposes and employers can't demand to see it.

I see lots of topics for Removal of Conditions where people failed to get the unrestricted SS card when they first got their green card and then are having issues because of that and because they used GC to prove they're work authorized.

Don't employers still ask to see the work permit / green card to know when its expiration date is? This way they know when to check back in before expiration to update their files with your renewed work permit / green card. They don't want to risk employing someone past a potential expiration of work authorization.
