At this point, we got 55 year old grandfathers being profiled and called thugs. Soon, it's going to be preemptive target selection...

My thought. Spend the money on a better police force, public school funding, and after school programs. As of right now, the cops in those areas could care less. I've lived in STL and been in ESTL long enough to see it first hand. They spend more time harassing the folks in the neighborhood than going after the criminal element. Show the people you care about them, maybe, just maybe things could turn around. They say it starts at home, but that will only get you so far. Because it doesn't matter if you get your kid to act right when he gets gunned down on the way to school.

Baltimore second in per-pupil spending, Census Bureau says
But 2011 figures show first decrease nationally since 1977
May 21, 2013|By Erica L. Green, The Baltimore Sun

The Baltimore school system ranked second among the nation's 100 largest school districts in how much it spent per pupil in fiscal year 2011, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The city's $15,483 per-pupil expenditure was second to New York City's $19,770. Rounding out the top five were Montgomery County, which spent $15,421; Milwaukee public schools at $14,244; and Prince George's County public schools, which spent $13,775.

There are several reasons why violence has spiked in the city: one of the answers is gangs.

You know, the very same gangs that were on tv with 'supposed' pastors saying that they would stop their behavior. There is a war going on right now, and the gangs are feeding into the anger that young people are feeling and exploiting it as they expand their turf. Many of those who are being killed right now, are not the ''general public'', although it pains me to even say that (as a life is a life), they are people in the gang/drug trade. Violence in your life tends to beget violence.

lostinblue, that's some wanton paranoia you're spoon-feeding yourself. Please stop, or you'll end up holed up in a bunker somewhere having a psychosis. ;)

Stay Woke: as apt as I am to agree with you... Waco and Baltimore are a little different. Though, a gang is a gang is a gang. So in that the cause of the violence/drugs (gangs whether they be donuts on motorcycles or donuts on dirt bikes) are the same, yes. But Waco is not Baltimore in terms of the chaos and pain it's people are going through on a daily basis. It's people have a giant ax to grind. I don't see the same thing going on there. The gang tiff in Waco resulted in many dead at one setting. Violence in Baltimore continues on a daily basis regardless of whom is in charge or the mood. 80s/90s violence in the city you could have 400-500 in a single year dead. I'd need some better crime-rate statistics to compare when it comes to biker gangs and their chokeholds on certain towns.

All liberals running the place for the last how many years .

There does seem a lot of factors these places have in common, political control and high spending being two of them.

Um, what about the rampant police corruption that's been a problem in Baltimore for years? Guess that has nothing to do with it...

Also post the link.

And you still haven't told me how I created this problem. Still waiting...

To quote the South African consular official from Lethal Weapon 2:

"but, you're black!"

That must be it.

It goes back to what you said before. It's easier to blame us and lay everything at our feet.

Sure. If a black teenager in Elizabeth, New Jersey breaks into a house to rob it and in doing so rapes and murders a mother and her two young children (true story) who would you blame? Clearly an unrelated black man in California. Makes perfect sense. As much as it makes sense to blame Jack Lemmon for Lee Harvey Oswald.

Did not know about Jack Lemon.

And yet the riot you posted, how many people were killed Lib?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDIDr8MJTbc

Is this them having some fun?

Apples and oranges comparison. The Waco incident involved the rival gangs. They shot each other, they didn't go up and down Main Street trashing cars and vandalizing businesses. Baltimore was a free for all. It wasn't a protest, it was various groups of people hells bent on destruction simply for the sake of destruction.

Baltimore started out as a protest. For 6 days, it was peaceful. Things took a turn for the worse. What's sad is, that's what it takes to get people attention.

All liberals running the place for the last how many years .

I quite expected that answer from someone who has no idea about anything going on in Baltimore, until they suddenly heard all about it on.. the news.

Shh, you know lib doesn't want to talk about that...

Democrat controlled police corruption.

Too simple Boiler. Not that the criticism isn't a fair point, but the truth is it's far deeper than just who is sitting at the head of the political table. There are many good Democrats that have tried to help in Baltimore. Some things worked, and some failed terribly.

Still the only way the violence stops is if the gangs stop... and not just say they will stop on tv... for some weird 15-minute of fame pseudo street cred publicity.

And the people who were truly protesting probably didn't start the riot. From the video posted it looks like a lot of young guys on a rampage for destruction. They didn't do it to bring attention to the situation. They did it because they were having fun.

Truth. I think the people who looted took advantage of the situation. It's frustrating that you have to protest to get the basics done...

Of course he doesn't. If it can be blamed on the black community, it's a conversation worth having. Anything less than that and he clams up real quick...

Baltimore has faced its deadliest month since 1999 after 32 shootings left nine people dead this Memorial Day weekend.

Among the wounded was a 17-year-old boy shot in the arm and a 9-year-old boy shot in the leg, according to CBS Baltimore.

The violence began during the weekend and spilled into Monday, with two more people killed shortly after Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D) met with the Baltimore Police Department to discuss the violence, The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Sun reports there have been 35 homicides so far this month and 108 this year. By comparison, New York City -- with a significantly higher population -- has seen 115 murders this year.

No arrests have been made in the shootings, which left 26 injured. Police have not released the names of victims. One man, shot in the head, is listed in critical condition. Nine others are dead, with one man found covered in gunshot wounds on his chest and leg early Monday morning.

Yvonne Gunn, 67, told the Sun she heard shots during an incident this weekend in her Poppleton neighborhood of West Baltimore and was scared to look outside.

"I started praying," Gunn said. "I didn't move ... The drugs have escalated in this block in the last six months. With this new drug element in the block -- oh, Lord."

“It’s scary because I’ve got kids," someone in the Govans neighborhood, where a triple shooting occurred, told CBS Baltimore. "I don’t want anything to happen to my kids, especially around here. It’s a peaceful neighborhood."

Howard Libit, a spokesman for the mayor, said Rawlings-Blake is frustrated with the ongoing violence. In a statement, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said his department is "moving aggressively" and hopes to "modernize and better equip ourselves for the future."

Fortunately, most Americans are waking up to the cheap bill of goods being served on the late lunch line.
