If you are looking for lawyer to be joint sponsor, then it is not possible.

Your wife could keeping asking her friends for help, or try working 2 jobs to meet the poverty guidelines requirement.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

It doesn't have to be her family - it can be any US Citizen (or LPR I believe) willing to sponsor you. A lawyer can do nothing (but will certainly cost more money).

A lawyer isn't going to help. You have three options:

- she can move to you instead.

- Wait until she can get a promotion/ go back to school and get a better paying job after/ get a second job

- Cast your net wider for co-sponsors; remember they need not be family. Ask neighbours, co-workers, old college friends, childhood friends, people at church/ mosque, friends from the book club....

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Why is she not working? If it is because she has a small child, then in a year or so, she can work again. If it is because she is disabled, she can use her SSI income to help sponsor you. If it is because she is unemployed, have her check for training opportunities so she becomes more employable. This won't solve your problem with sponsorship right away, but if you are patient, it can.

I am very sorry for your loss. That is a difficult time in your lives, and it will take a long time to get back to anything approaching normal. However, on the positive side, chances are good that in a few weeks or months, she can work again and then sponsor you.

In terms of self sponsorships, some embassies allow that, but most do not; at the very least, I would recommend moving the money to the USA and into a joint account. You would need 3 times the 125% poverty level, so if it is just the two of you, at least $60'000 in easily liquidated assets.

It's on you to help yourself brother. None of us can make this problem go away.

See if anyone in her community can co sponser. That being said, it's a huge legal commitment, it's not just signing papers. They are on the hook for several years. This is why most go to family first.

Assets are 3 times amount needed. So if you're short 5 grand, u need 15 grand in assets. Which have to be like a second home or second car or cash on hand
