One thing I learned is that embassies and protocols are different. What may be the norm in UK may not be used in Ethiopia, just as an example. Also individual applications are different. Someone from MENA originally that is going through Germany may be put under much more scrutiny than others.

As for Facebook, the key is moderation. I love Facebook and it has enabled me to connect with many long lost friends and family. Without Facebook I can state clearly that the reconnection whould probably not have happened. You can also use Facebook to your advantage during immigration, in my opinion, if your intention for a visa is clean. It is my opinion that it can help your case if the embassy does go and look up your profile, but you have to make sure that you're being a Gentleman or Lady on there.

I had the same thing. My wife used my last name on the Facebook before she got K1 and before we got married. Did not have a problem

I had 10,000 pages of chatlogs from FB. I printed out about 300 for my interview. Wasn't even asked for it. FB is "secondary evidence" and can be faked easily, proof of spending time together and pictures are more important.

We were denied our first petition - a K1, because of Facebook back in 2012. The CO thought are engagement photos looked more like wedding photos. He DEMANDED my then fiancé to give him the password to his FB or it would've been an instant denial if he refused. We had nothing to hide and he gave it to the CO (this was after STRONGLY interrogating him for 7 hours!). He finally said you're lying, you're already married and gave him a Misrepresentation under INA 212a6ci - which is a lifetime ban. Believe me, not an easy thing to overcome and as you can see in my signature timeline - we were able to do just that and were just approved on our CR1 last week!

So they can and will look at FB and any other social media if they want. Oh and we had an attorney at that time as well. They didn't do much of anything. They did answer my questions but I did all of the research, paperwork and legwork necessary. They wouldn't grant us a 2nd interview while still at the Consulate and it took the USCIS 13 months to finally render the final decision to just administratively close our petition without prejudice to file again. So be forewarned and be careful what you post, because even something you consider innocent and/or insignificant can and will be held against you.

That CO is a piece of work for sure.

I know a couple who had a church blessing, no signing no registration, nothing.

At the interview they pulled out a blown up photo out of no where and asked what it this ?

Petitioner said : our church blessing without loosing a beat.

CO responded: I don't believe it but I will let it slip.

They didn't use FB or any other social media and to this day have no clue where they got that photo from.

Perhaps in harvested email accounts.

They get what they want and don't care about a court order because there are special unbeknownst to us "security laws "

out there that they utilize. Don't think for a second that your online accounts are not accessible.

The preview in the link is not about harvesting everyone's email but the documentary goes into detail about it, I watched the whole program before.

That was years ago before most everyone knew from the media what was going on.

Based on our experience, we submitted chatlogs (voluminous) from FB. The IO just took a short look at it but never asked for our passwords (which my lawyer said would be a grave violation if they did) nor took a look at our FB. Well, maybe others have a different case.

Well I never mentioned passwords in my posts but as you brought it up: they do ask for passwords but I think it is rare.

They have every right to look at anything you post online and make public.
