Hello guys so we got my ticket figured out and got a ticket with cathay pacific, connecting flight in hongkong. My concern is am gonna be on stand by since i will be using a staff ticket. Does anyone have an idea if the hkg - sfo flights are full during the first week of july since its peak season? Lol.

check out the website www.expertflyer.com There you can see seat availability on specific days and fights. There is a free membership available and I think you can the this info with the free version.

I can't speak to Cathay Pacific HK to SFO flights, but last month I tried standby on EVA Air Taipei to SFO and there were 21 people waiting ahead of me. Needless to say, I didn't make it on the flight. Good luck with that.

very likely. since... peak season.

but luckily stand-by doesn't only work when the plane is empty. When a flight is full of connecting passengers, there's a great chance that 1-2 or 4 passengers will miss the connection due to late arrivals or canceled flights from somewhere and so they put you in at the last minute about 5-10 minutes before pushback. So, you never know even if the flight is booked to capacity.

Gotcha. We decided to just use staff tickets because of the peak. A one way ticket mnl - sfo is about $800 right now. i just checked and cx have 3 flights out to sfo everyday so i am hoping i wont need to wait for more than 24 hours to get on a flight. Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated. :)

Unless you just want to use cathay pacific or there is a certain day you want to fly. united airline price from manila to sfo is cheaper then 800. With the exception of July 4th and July 8th United has flights around 700 no standby

I will not want to be on standby if it was my first time to another country
