Citizenship for me and my son

Hi all,

I have been looking for the answer to this question and I'm stumped. I have all my N-400 stuff ready to go but I'm confused as to how my 17 year old son gets Citizenship. He is a Green Card holder too. I know, I think, that his citizenship will be on the back of mine but do I need to send in passport photo's of him too? There is little reference to him on the N-400 other than his Alien number. Also, there is only one charge for biometrics, but don't I need to pay for two?

Thanks in advance. Apologies if these are dumb questions and I'm missing something. I have MS and my cognitive ability and memory are poor at the moment so I'm struggling with this stuff :help:

They are not dumb questions.

Two ways to do it.

You can file for him just as you did for yourself & pay the fee. He would receive the certificate just like you.

You can apply for a passport for him. We did this right in the same building immediately after my ceremony at a desk the U S passport set up. This is cheaper of course.

Ning, thank you! That's great. I'd rather just apply for a passport for him and not pay the big fee. Would he receive a certificate on the same day as I do, just because I do?

Read this from USCIS. Scroll down and start at FAQ #25. http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/article/chapter3.pdf

If you become a citizen, he can get a passport, not a certificate as long as he is still 17 on your naturalization ceremony day. If he has turned 18 before you get your certificate, then he has to do the N-400, pay the fees, take the test, and get a certificate exactly like you will do.

It is going to depend on if you become a citizen before his next birthday.

hi

if you become a USC before he turns 18 then he will derive your citizenship and he can get a US passport, no certificate

if you want a certificate then he would need to apply for the N600

the N400 is only for adults, 18 and over

if he turns 18 before you get your Citizenship certificate at the oath ceremony, then he will have to apply for the N400 on his own and take the test

Oh man! I'd better get a wiggle on. He is 18 on 24th January. I'll get this pack in the post STAT.

So, no need to send passport pics of him, no extra pennies for the biometrics then? This N-400 is all for just me. Correct?
