Question regarding K-1 petition and employment status

I am wanting to get the K-1 Visa process started but I am currently unemployed(studying a trade but not in school/apprenticeship yet). I also do not have access to any sponsorship. Would it be alright to start the K-1 process as long as I have a job by the time the interview comes around and I can prove my ability to support my fiancee? Would doing this delay the process at all? I understand having a job first would be ideal but I don't want to delay too long because of the already long time it takes for the K-1 visa process. Thanks.

Yes you can start. Initial filing only requires that you are both free to marry and have met within 2 years of filing + filing fee. Proving you can support your fiancee comes during the interview stage. Keep in mind though that Ohio is under California Service Center and they are currently approving petitions very quickly.

I wasn't aware that they changed it. How do they do it now? I can't find anything on the USCIS website about the change.

Either way, in the event that the petition goes to CSC, still a good thing to be prepared. :)

When did that change?

I think they re routed some from Texas to California

Yeah I wasn't aware they changed it either. Rerouting to balance the workload is different from changing the entire sorting process.

Oh well. Did you find that Rolex?

Cases that are received after March 27th are routed to the service center in which the workload is the least, in I-129F's case, CSC. So, more then likely, the OPs petition will be routed to CSC, but not based on their state anymore.

Yeah, you can start, but you better get employed and quick! If you go to CSC, which is most likely, you will need to prove income and quick.

With no co-sponsor, you are in a world of hurt.

Go to work, establish a good relationship with employer, and be ready when your K-1 is approved.

Good luck on your journey, it is long and is not easy, but oh, so worth it!
