Driver's Licence as proof of domicile

Hey guys!

Just a really quick question, my fiance wants to use his driver's license as proof of domicile...but I just wanna check and make sure that a copy of that is sufficient, or does it have to be an actual document with proof of domicile?

If that's the case I'm not sure what to use since he doesn't exactly wanna send off his driver's licence.

You need banking statements, tax returns, bills... Driver license alone is not enough.

Well thanks for letting me know, since we would think that would be sufficient.

Now along with the affidavit of support, he is including last year's tax return...although I'm assuming that won't be accepted as proof of domicile since it's with the affidavit of support, right?

A tax return or transcript is a good way to establish domicile.

I'm glad it is, we are including his tax return in the affidavit of support as it requires, but I'm wondering if that can also double as additional proof of domicile so it wouldn't just be his drivers licence alone?

I actually started looking for this because I didn't see proof of domicile as part of the K-1 visa, at least for the part where the petitioner sends off things like the financial support proof, reaffirmation of intent to marry, and proof of relationship once the NVC has sent the case to the consulate.

A lot of people say that you only need it if petitioner doesn't live in the US. Unless the montreal consulate requires it, then I guess I'll need to be making sure to send my bank statement sure for sure! LOL

Your fiance lives in the US right? If so, then Montreal wants things like lease, utility bills, and copies of driver's license, car registration.

My Fiance is canadian, I'm the US one, but yeah I just saw what Montreal requires so looks like I gotta get my stuff together!

Would a pay stub work? It proves both employment and residency (since the home address is on the pay stub)

Don't know. I'm personally doing Bank Statement, Drivers Liscense, Car Insurance, and Daughters School Registration.

Part of me would think that if DL wasn't good enough then neither would the info on a paystub as you can tell a company you live anywhere and they don't have to verify it (same with a DL). Granted you can do it with a lot of things (School registration requires proof though), but having multiple things all show the same address will probably be the best way to prove it.

Thanks for telling all this. Well, we are also in this problem but my girlfriend doesn’t have the driving license. She just finished her driving training at Port Macquarie Driving School and will take the driving test in the next month. So what we should do in this situation?

You'll want to use other forms of proof of domicille.

Lease Agreement

Utilitiy Bill (Electric, Gas, trash, etc)

School Registration

Car registration

Car and/or Renters Insurance
