EAD under AOS from K1

Hello, I did a bit of research with regards to the best way to work under AOS from K1. Please confirm if I understood it correctly. Thanks.

1) Apply for SSN

2) After marriage file for AOS with EAD, AP

3) EAD arrives in 9-10 weeks

4) EAD will have an expiration date so, it's better to apply for EAD under AOS before the current one expires.

5) keep renewing the EAD until GC is approved.

Your thoughts?

1) Apply for SSN Yes but only if you need it to open bank accounts otherwise there is really no other use for it so wait till after marriage.

2) After marriage file for AOS with EAD, AP Yes as a package.

3) EAD arrives in 9-10 weeks No it issued as a employment and travel authorization on a single card, referred to as a combo card and arrives in about 9-10 weeks.

4) EAD will have an expiration date so, it's better to apply for EAD under AOS before the current one expires. Expiration Date is one year but with the new combo card it expirees when the GC expires.

5) keep renewing the EAD until GC is approved. Nope. not needed.

Our I-485 (AoS/GC) date is June 17, 2014. I called the office yesterday and filed an issue or whatever they call it. Today I received an email saying it was normal to be 9 months late. Our case status says we will receive a decision by Oct. 6, 2014.

From all I can read, I am hoping it will show up in the mail (that's how I heard the GC happens, no warning, nothing) around the last week of June 2015. Problems are we are moving now so I'll have to update the address and her EAD/AP expires in Aug. so we must renew that soon too. If you guys have any examples close to our time frames let us know. VJ was really helpful to us all along. Thanks !!!

When you say that the combo card expires when the GC expires, does that mean the GC would have arrived after 6 months of receiving the combo card?

No. You will receive your combo card approx. 9-10 weeks after applying. Your GC will arrive within six months of starting the AOS process. What adds time is the interview. We had no interview so we got ours in 4 months. Remember, your mileage may vary. Start tapping your fingers on the counter. It all take time.

4 to 6 months for GC ain't happening for many.

We received the interview waiver letter, and it projects the decision to be made

in 6 more months later...when we were already 3.5 months in the processing.

So at this point, we are probably looking at about at least 10 months or more

to receive the GC...that is if they actually process at the time they mentioned.

I don't have my wife's EAD/AP card on hand, but I believe it expires after 1 year,

so we are planning to renew the EAD/AP card 3 months before it expires,

if my hasn't received the GC by then...this is just so that if she is employed at the time

that there is no disruption of her work due to not having GC and EAD expiring.

I have found it is taking longer for those people where they get the interview waiver, I know of a number of couples where it was taking 7 months or more before receiving the GC. Whereas those being interviewed are receiving their cards within a few weeks after the interview.
