Does anyone have any suggestions when adjusting to life in the US, especially LA (Long Beach) He seems fine but he is worried about getting a good job (currently going through AOS) My moms husband says he will help him out as he works in the LA docks but that isn't guaranteed. Anyone who lives in LA or US have any advice? He didn't go to university but worked his way up the ladder in the UK and was successful. Would anyone recommend any expat groups or anything like that?

Well if your mom's husband works on the docks in the Longshoreman's Union, and he can help him with an in, that would be the way to go if he doesn't mind the work. We're talking $100k a year eventually with good benefits and a pension.

What are his skills/qualifications.

Redbeard - Yeah, thats what we are hoping but its not guaranteed. Problem is at the moment, he isn't in control!

Boiler - He worked as a manager of a health club and was a manager at a company called 'Big Yellow Storage' He went to college and got a BTEC in sports and exercise science. He's 26 and has worked full time since he was 17 so I guess age is on his side.

I have used Big Yellow.

Docks sound a good idea if he can get in, would be starting from scratch here.

Also, what is he interested in doing? Because at the end of the day, he should be always moving towards doing work that makes him happy. For some people happiness with their job comes from a monetary amount. For other people it comes from following a calling. For most of us, we find a middle ground.

Did he enjoy management? Or is he looking for a change?

He is looking for a change but beggars can't be choosers at the end of the day. He does want a change. He looked at joining the police department, specifically the department of fish and wildlife.
