Confused NOA2 / NVC

Hi guys,

I've read the guides and searched the forum but some confusion now that we have received our NOA2. There seems to be a lot of info on NOA2 for K3 but not the K1.

Do I send off copies of everything NOW to my fiance? (I-134, copies of what I sent to USCIS, proof of income, etc) -- or am I waiting for a letter from the NVC FIRST that will tell me exactly what to send? I've been waiting to send anything to my fiance in Costa Rica because I've been under the impression that I now get a letter from NVC telling me what exactly to send (even though I already know based on guides). However, other posts seems to say the fiance will get the letter from the NVC directly for interview/medical and I won't even get any info in between. Can anyone clarify? If I need to get documents mailed I want to do it now so he has them in time.

Thank you!

The letter sent to you by NVC doesn't provide directions on what to do next. The embassey would provide your fiancé with that info. You can send him everything now so he's prepared

Chiming in late here but just came across this and I have a request and maybe some help to offer. Request is...can you give a picture of what the embassy in CR needs and what their time frame looks like? Would be super helpful, especially as I'm trying to bring all the paperwork myself rather than rely on the mail (I get the feeling we're going to have to really hustle once we get NOA2 if we have a prayer to POE be for 2016).

Suggestion: Spirit, JetBlue and Southwest all go to SJO now (very recent developments too). I just got a RT from BWI for $410. I know you're in Denver but there really is probably a much cheaper option than $1k now.

Hi guys! Just a quick update on this. I did decide to go ahead and book a flight to be there. My work is being very supportive after I explained the situation and have no problem with it. Very relieved. Tickets weren't cheap, but definitely better than anticipated, closer to the $600 range. I think it is worth it to be there with him and not be as stressed, and we are planning on flying home together if all goes well.

Catherine, to answer your question - after we received our NOA2, we went ahead and filled out the DS-160 for my fiance (which is required, and you also pay the $265.00). We waited for a few weeks after our NOA2 to do this but I would suggest doing it right away because the day after we filled it out and made our payment, we got our interview appointment scheduled! Our interview is next Tuesday on June 23rd. After you fill out the DS-160 and make your payment the consulate will e-mail you directions (in both Spanish and English) of all the evidence you will need to gather for the interview. Then you will go online to schedule the intervew (AFTER YOU HAVE ALL DOCUMENTS) and they will give days and time slots where you can schedule your interview.

I hope this helps!

Thanks. So about how long after NOA2 was your interview scheduled? Or, well now I'm confused. You said after DS-160 they scheduled your interview appointment, but then you said that after you have all the documents is when you went online to schedule the interview. I'm trying to figure out any little way to save time here. Like maybe doing the DS-160 right now so we can file it the same day we're eligible. Or maybe getting all the documents together now (or at least making a plan on how to get them so that they don't get them so soon that they're expired by the time we need them).

We petitioned in February, are stuck at the TSC hellhole and ALL I WANT is to have him here before the new year. And this will only happen if we can get everything after NOA2 done in 8 weeks or less, unless something magical changes at TSC which it won't, so I'm really really anxious to get whatever is necessary from US done as quickly as possible.

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

24 Oct 2015: POE !

15 Dec 2015: Fiance's mother's B-2 visa interview: APPROVED! So happy she will be at the wedding!

!

Sorry this is so late! It has been super busy the past few weeks and we just got back from Costa Rica.

You can get all the documents before. I did (letter from employer, bank letter and statements, taxes, etc.). Just make sure you update the dates when it gets closer. Everything moved very quickly for us after we got our NOA2. Feel free to direct message me if you have anymore questions. :)
