I-34 Affidavit of Support

I've read that it is recommended to have an annual salary of $35,000 to file the affidavit on your own but on my last tax return my salary was $34,500. Having said that, I have assets invested in the market valued at over $700,000 and a savings account with $125,000. I feel ridiculous asking this, but will they accept that or should I try to find another sponser? Also, I have an official letter from my bank and an official statement of my investments. Will the embassy, in Ecuador, accept those? Thanks!

Just to be sure...I'm assuming you are the US citizen, and you are trying to apply for a fiancee visa?

Income requirement depends on your family/household.

Check it here...and use 125% of that value.

If your income is short by $500, then you can make up the shortage with 3x asset

so you should have no problem.

You need enough for your household size plus the foreign fiance(e). If you have no kids, then that would be for 2. If you have 2 kids, then you would need enough for 4, which is $30,312. The household size is you, any minor kids, any other dependents claimed on most recent taxes, anyone else you have signed an I-864 for(and is still in force), and your fiance(e).

If you are self-employed, then they will look at line 22, Total Income, on your latest 1040. If you are an employee, then list your current annual income and prove that amount with a letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs.

What do I do if I'm a student with an income just from capital gains?

Then list your annual income from interest, and show proof of the interest income you receive. Provide proof of the savings with a bank statement showing how much you have. I would list the interest income as your income and then list the amount in savings where it asks for assets.
