Need to change my passport

Hello everybody,

My K-1 visa was approved from USCIS two weeks ago and it is probably in NVC now and will be transferred to US embassy in Ankara/Turkey soon. One of the requirements that US embassy asks applicants is to have a passport at least for 8 months. Well, my passport is valid for 8 months right now but in two weeks or whenever I get my interview, it will be valid for less than 8 months. I can get a new passport in just two days. But should I change my passport and get a new one? what if embassy say: USCIS has approved your old passport and your new passport is something new for us (US embassy).

Any helps and ideas would be appreciated

Did you contact the embassy and asked this or did you read it on their website somewhere?

I emailed my embassy (Stockholm) and they said that the passport should have 6 months on it from the time I get my visa. My passport expires in 7.

Maybe embassies have different requirements but if you just read it on their website it might be a good to double check the info with them. Sometimes what is said on the website and what is actually accepted are not 100% the same.

first of all you should contact the embassy and ask them directly about this. Have you already sent your P3 to the embassy? In China they asked for first page of your passport. So I assume once they get it and see that it expires less than in 8 months they might say something or contact you. If no then get the visa to your old passport, apply for a new one and entry the US with two passports, I did it once but crossing the boarder heading to China.
