Boy Ksenia you were right when you said that it felt like forever before they put your petition into AP at the embassy. It's only been a week for me, but feels like ages and also feels like it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. FWIW, I received this snippet in one of my replies from the Consul section of the embassy in Moscow:

I dunno. If I can get the same 10 days that you got, I'll be quite happy with that. We'll see.

Any day now. I know it sucks to wait, I checked the status very often and was counting time till AP. I don't know where that impatience comes from, but being so close to the finish line just makes us all obsessed I guess! :)

And what about the interview fee of $265? I paid that online, but when I was perusing my account the other night I noticed that they actually charged me over $290. Did y'all have the same experience?

Still no change as of 4:23 local time today, Friday. :ranting:

Do you have a dollar account or ruble account? If ruble then that must be their exchange rate that is posted on their website. And it is normally higher than the Central Bank sets.

It's in dollars. My statement says that I was charged a little more than $290. The receipt says Russian Standard Bank, amount was 14840 RUR. Date was May 17th, I assume that this was the RUR equivalent of $265 at the time. I may call the US Travel Docs customer service line on Monday to see what the story is.

Was just curious if any of you encountered the same thing.

Today is day 9 (Friday) and counting. So 12 days will be the best possible result for me given the weekend. I was hopeful for a change this week, but with the Memorial Day holiday on Monday I wasn't too optimistic.

What's your status right now? Are you still in "Ready" state? Have you received an email from the embassy giving you instructions on how to schedule your interview and have you done that? Did you check to see if they've received the paper copy of your petition?

And did you encounter the same problem with your interview fee payment?

Ah I see, ok. No you don't need to call them to see if they have the paper copy of your petition. They do or else you wouldn't have had a change of status to AP. I am curious about when your paper copy of your petition arrived only to gauge what I might can expect. I mean I've been in Ready status since the 15th of May and they received my petition on the 20th of May but yet still nothing. Today is day 12. So I'm kinda hacked off. I've done everything, only waiting on them to change my status and allow me to schedule the interview.

I understand travelling, etc. Gotta do what you gotta do. Whenever you do get around to making the payment, it'll say $265 on the website where you pay, but check your statement afterwards if you wouldn't mind. I'm curious to see what number you end up with.

Thanks

Ok I've been thinking about this today. 12 days have passed for me without going into AP. But ce2010 is already there after less than 7 (from what i can tell). Why would this be the case? Should I be worried about something? I cannot imagine what that would be, but...I am not a first-time filer; my ex-wife is Ukrainian. I divorced her after she attempted extortion against me. She now lives back in Ukraine. But of course I included the divorce decree. So I dunno ... could this be holding it up?

I wouldn't worry yet. When my case was on the way from the NVC to the Embassy there was a also a girl I talked to on another site that had her case sent to the Embassy earlier than mine and we got the change into AP on the same day. I guess some cases do take a bit longer, but not too much longer. She waited for 15 or 16 days and I waited 10 as you already know.

Ok Ksenia,

Thank you for the reply and for continuing to follow the thread. I'll give it until the end of the week. If I don't hear anything by then I'll send another email. I thought about doing that on Wednesday, as that would be day 14, two weeks, but since you said this other gal didn't receive hers until 15 or 16, I'll wait until that point before inquiring.

EDIT: Ksenia, quick question ... did you follow up with the girl who had been waiting longer? Was she approved?

She was approved. I know the consulate officer was less nice and friendly with her for some reason at the interview(same guy but she had hers a week or two later than me), but still she was approved no problem.

Ksenia-

You said that the one CO wasn't very friendly with the gal you knew...what about the Moscow embassy in general? Are they known for this? Do they deny visas generally speaking or are they pretty easy to get along with? I simply cannot imagine why their review is taking this long for us; I mean ours seems like a pretty straightforward case ... we just had our son born in Moscow, I am here for that birth and for the fiance visa interview, I've told them as much, we've completed all the documents, provided supporting material, paid the fees, etc. You'd be hard pressed to get much more of a genuine, sincere relationship than that, right? Kinda stumped on this one. I just want the approval and to take my new family home.

Thanks

K-1 is my 4th visa to the USA, all of the times I had applied everyone was super nice, easy to deal with and welcoming. I don't know why they are very strict and serious with some and so easy going with others. COs also have different tactics to interview a person too: it can be friendly or it can be more pushy to make a person tell the truth. Her fiance signed all their letters including personal postcards with his full name. CO thought it was a bit too formal for this kind of relationships and possibly was being pushy to see if they are not telling the truth or something. My case was not the most straightforward one, previous marriage and long divorce(we filed documents a week after it was finalized) on my side and my fiance had a couple of DUIs from 7-8 years ago. It was just me at the interview and he did ask me about divorce and fiance's criminal records, but I told him the truth as it was and not for a single moment I got any judgement or disapproval, CO stayed very friendly and nice.

I wouldn't worry if I were you, you will be approved for sure, remember my words! :) The only cases I hear to be denied are if Russian fiance(e) doesn't know of the criminal records, the USC fiance forgets to supply divorce documents from previous marriages to foreign citizens or don't mention that at all in their petition and it comes up later.

My only concern for the interview for my fiancee is (im petitioner) after living in usa for year and half (legally with student visa) she went back to russia, without going pass her visa date.

since than she applied 3 times for tourist visa and got denied because of no strong ties to russia situation...

maybe thats when we gonna have hard time in the interview..
