Almost 60 days and no case # from nvc

Hey guys,

So me and my fiancé got approved March 2nd and still no case number! We even sent in a request to our congressman on Monday ( not sure how long that will take) our wedding is sept 5 th and we are freaking out that we won't have the visa in time and at that point it will be a year and a half anyone else in the same boat.....????

Trust me I have spoke to a supervisor and our lawyer adviser us to contact our congressman... Believe it or not it actuall is their job... It explains right on her website. And we started planning because we assumed we would be good to go by then. Especially considering we are both Canadians .. We didn't think this would turn out to 1.5 year process.. Plus you have to prove to the gov you are planning on getting married! So before you start snapping at me get your facts straight.

There are any number of reasons why you haven't gotten any answers. Have you spoken to the NVC yourself? Did your lawyer mess up any paperwork? What answers, if any did NVC or the USCIS give you when you spoke to them? Have they lost your file? Have you put in a service request? Have you received acknowledgment of any service request?

There is absolutely nothing wrong in seeking help from you representative. That's what they are there for, but do also make sure you've checked all other avenues first.

It is always advised to never make any wedding plans. Proving you're getting married to the government is really more about making sure you've written a letter of intent. They don't expect too much else regarding that.

I have spoken to USCIS and they said there is nothing they can do until it's been 90 days and they informed us it was sent to nvc .I spoke with multiple supervisors at nvc and they told me to check with USCIS and they don't understand how they haven't got it yet. our lawyer was the one who told us to contact our congresswomen at the 56 day mark.

Did you speak to a tier 2 agent at the USCIS? Otherwise you may have to wait the 90 days. Absolutely get your congressperson involved.

I'm in a similar situation, although I haven't had to wait quite as long as you. Ours was approved on March 27th and as of Monday they still had no record of receiving it at the NVC, it's been 5 weeks now. It' a bit odd condidering I've seen quite a few at CSC approved a week or two after ours that have already got to their consulates....

I'm sorry to hear this It took almost 40 days for mine to reach the NVC, and many of us in the same boat only received our case number after putting in a service request. You were right to have contacted your congressman, once USCIS and NVC receive an inquiry from a congressman they have to look into your case and respond within 48 hours - so you should hear something very soon.

If CSC doesn't have it, and NVC doesn't have it, maybe it got sent to the NRC (as happens occasionally) because someone doesn't know their alphabet and cannot distinguish a "v" from an "r." It doesn't mean your case is lost, just off track. Very frustrating, I know! Keep us updated!

Have you asked for a supervisor or administrator or director? You have options, you need to use the chain of command before heading off to the Congressman. That's not their job. It's your job.

Why did you plan for and pay for a wedding when you KNEW you had no visa to even attend the wedding?

Actually it is part of their job to assist constituents when the system fails or appears to be failing. Agreed that working up the chain of command is the proper procedure but it appears OP has done that.

I am in a somewhat similiar situation. My case got to NVC on 4/8 and was assigned case numbers 4/10. Since then it has been "undergoing normal administrative processing." It's concerning because other Jamaica filers are being sent to the consulate within several days of receiving case numbers. Tomorrow it will have been there for 3 weeks.

I've not had to wait as long as you as mine was received in I think it was 47 days. Still a long time whichever way you wanna look at it!

What date did you put the service request in? The only time anything was done with ours was when my fiance put in the service request. I think rlt8990 is 100% right. If both Centers are saying they don't then CSC more than likely sent it to the research center.

so was it 47 days from when uscis approved it .. or sent it ... cause when we called them they mentioned it being send on the 18th.. even tho we were approved the 2nd.

Every Member of Congress has a local office which employs people whose only job is to help constitutions when they are having problems with the federal government. Every government agency has private phone numbers and email addresses that these caseworkers can contact to get answers when things are out of the ordinary for an individual. A very normal and expected course of action in any federal process is the involvement of these caseworkers when and if anything strays off the normal and expected path.

So to answer your first question: everything. And about "that's not their job", well yes, actually it is. Both the caseworker's literal, actual, daily basis job, and in the grander sense, our Congressmen's job is to represent us to and advocate for us to, the government. So it's the Congressman's job, too.
