Marriage during M1 Visa and processing for an AOS

Hi

I want to know if a person on an M1 Visa with a duration of 7 months gets married to a Green Card holder can he or she apply for AOS after the marriage and before the M1 Visa expires. Is it so that after the marriage the AOS can only be filed after 1.5 to 2 years of marriage and so till then the person has to live in the country on some other VISA.

Has to maintain status whole time, one day out of status you are not qualified to AOS inside US

12/31/2014: Fingerprinted

02/06/2015: In-Line for Interview

04/15/2015: Passed Interview

05/05/2015: Oath letter was sent

05/22/2015: Oath Ceremony

Also is it advisable for us to get married just after few months of her M1 VISA before it expires. Once we get married what do we do to keep her in the country as we can apply for the AOS only after 1.2 or 2 years.
