Back to topic: My beloved Mr U used to hang out with members of the Pickup Artist (PUA) community as part of a project he was working on. Having an Asian girlfriend was considered to be the mark of achieving alpha male status -- these are women who are naturally subservient, are mysterious and exotic, and will take care of their men like no American whale could. But when Mr U met some of these girlfriends, he was struck by the fact that several of them had neither personality nor looks in their favour. What was attractive to their PUA boyfriends was only that they were Asian. He could see how those women who were pretty or witty or affectionate were attractive, and their Asian-ness was neither here nor there. This kind of fetishism to him seemed creepy, not least because he himself prefers not to date Asian women, since they all remind him of his mom.
