i know that DS261 is for the choice of agent but what is DS261 really is for? because the beneficiary is my son and the petitioner is my husband, and i chose myself to become the choice of agent because my son is a minor and my husband works offshore. but since my husband is on a vacation right now, so he is able to sign the form and process everything, so that's why I'm wondering, what is the DS261 really is for? I'm just worried it will give us some problem. I'm hoping i would be able to call them tomorrow to review our DS261. It seems like by choosing my self as a choice of agent is really a useless.

It's to input into the system to make the IV bill show up. If they were going to send you mail, that is where the NVC would send mail, but they do everything by email with email addresses. Putting yourself as agent also makes it easy to call the NVC in case a newer employee doesn't understand that you're the mother of the beneficiary.
