I can't seem to find any good pages to read up on it, but at this time what I'm seeing it's not like the US taking citizenship away from someone who naturalized they want to be able to take it away from people born in Canada too if they have a parent or grandparent that can pass on citizenship to their kids. So that is a lot more then just ppl who immigrated.

Unless you commit some act of terrorism, i don't think there is any effect. Plus it's a bill, not yet a law.

From what I've read so far on the matter, it doesn't seem like an 'act of terrorism' is the only possible reason a second class citizenship can be rescinded. And if 'acts of terrorism' were the only reason this could happen, what then defines an act of terrorism or will define it in the future? I believe this is where a lot of the fear of this and Bill C-51 comes from, the lack of definitive limits on what is and could later be terrorism. It's also frightening to think of your citizenship being considered a privilege in a country you were born in raised in. I'm already a second class citizen because my mother was born in the UK and I therefore have UK citizenship, so by no fault of my own, I am potentially at risk of losing citizenship in my home country. I know it's not likely, but I personally don't like that it's possible.

Also, this bill was passed and became law last year, June 20th, 2014. This article is talking about part of the bill coming into effect, specifically that which creates this distinction between first and second class citizens.

I don't normally post, but had read about this and wanted to clarify that this bill is indeed now law.

Had a little one last January. :)

It's been fun, it's been hard.

Family is really important for me. I come from the type of family who all gathers several times a year. On both sides. Lots of people. And you know there's always someone who's going to help if you need it. And everyone lives so far away from me now. My parents were able to visit for a week or two when the baby was 5 weeks old. But I haven't seen anyone else since I got married.
My husband's dad was in the military. He grew up in different countries and states. So he's never been close to anyone in his family. We don't really see anyone on this side but his parents. They are nice, they have helped a lot, watched the kid when we need to go out buuut... They don't really listen to my choices as a parent. And that makes me feel like I don't have any support here. So that part has been extremely hard as a first time mom. I know that if I lived in Canada or at least close to Canada I'd be having more support and help. It's lonely sometimes.

Baby has been teething since he's 9 weeks old... and they are still not out yet! D: But you can pretty much feel them all under the gum now, even the molars.

We are thinking of trying for number two soon-ish. But when Alex is having a bad day here, I'm starting to wonder if that's the right decision. Maybe one is enough haha.

Congrats on the birth of your son Fayeara!! Somewhat belated ;) So how old does that make him now? My daughter is now 20 months and we're expecting #2 in about 2 weeks. Eeeeek. Our daughter is definitely a handful - she was born with jaundice and screamed through the bili bed, then went on to get colic and acid reflux and now has separation anxiety. She's the sweetest little thing who loves to dance, sing, gives hugs, read stories and everything but I am not sure how much time I will have once baby gets here. Well, we'll figure it out somehow.

I think the hardest part for me is similar to you - when we move down to the USA we leave our support system behind and the ones our significant others have before don't always mesh well with ours. My sister in laws don't really interact or do anything with our daughter, and my husband's friend's wives for the most part never show up when we do things so I've been having to forge my own way and make my own support system. Two and half years and I'm finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That being said, it's still hard for things as simple as getting a babysitter for my OB appointments. Thankfully my husband is a fantastic support and we're a team together.

What kind of places have you looked to for the lonely factor? I've tried a few things and some were more successful than others... still finding my way.

Hey,

The little one is 7 months old! He's learning how to crawl right now.

I hope the birth of your second baby went well :) I'm sure it's going to be a whole lot of adaptation to go through once more.

I got into groups around my area on facebook, like the backyard chicken club that meets once a month. But really I'm pretty shy, so it's not easy. My parents are coming to visit soon, so that will be very nice ^^

Well, baby #2 is officially here. And we have two girls. And wow has it been a transition. Our little one ended up being readmitted to hospital for jaundice (ABO incompatibility) under the bili lights just like with my first daughter. Ugh. So we vanished on my toddler twice for two days each time (she was at our house with Grandma and Grandpa staying so the ideal situation really) but she took it really hard. Since then it's been a rough road. We're making slow progress. My new daughter has a tongue tie that we finally got clipped but it's been making nursing and pumping complicated which takes more time away from my oldest. She's acting out because of it. So now we have a 22 month old and a 3 and a half week old and both are waking up at night. There's a light at the end of the tunnel right??? I know there is. Just gotta get there :)

On a side note, the hospital told me to wait 3-4 weeks before applying for the birth certificate this time or it might not be filed yet and we'd have to pay a fee and re apply later. Well our health insurance needs new daughter added on within a month and they want the birth certificate. Awesome right. So anyway I'm applying for it this week and hopefully it comes fast. Who has time for paperwork bureaucracy I tell you!

Congrats on the new baby. Your 22 month old is also hitting terrible two what joys! But it sure does get easier. Try to get big sister to help with anything you can think of. It's always hard going from 1-2 after so just think #3 ++ won't be as hard :P

As for insurance they should be able to add her with the hospital records. I think the hospital here called it record or certificate of live birth. Maybe they can use that.

A note - there's a lot of scare tactics going around about the '2nd class' citizen thing against this particular bill. Honestly the legislation isn't any different then those of us who obtained US citizenship - we can be stripped of our US citizenship too if we are found to have lied, been terrorists etc.....

Under US law, a US citizen (both citizens by birth or naturalization) cannot lose US citizenship involuntarily (i.e. without his or her intent to relinquish citizenship).

Sometimes people who are naturalized have had their naturalization invalidated, because they lied during the immigration or naturalization process. This is sometimes reported in the media as taking away the person's citizenship, but technically speaking, the person is considered to have never been a citizen (and thus did not "lose" citizenship) because they never properly naturalized. This would have to be something that affected the validity of the original naturalization, so it cannot be due to something that happened after naturalization. (If you joined a terrorist organization right after naturalizing, they can argue you already had the intention when naturalizing, and lied about attachment to the Constitution when naturalizing; but if you joined a terrorist organization long after naturalizing, due to events that happened later, it's impossible to make this connection.) Canada also always had the ability to invalidate the citizenship of people who committed fraud in naturalization, long before this law.

But the new grounds of stripping Canadian citizenship are fundamentally different -- they allow taking away the citizenship of someone who properly had citizenship (i.e. where there is no question about the validity of their citizenship). This is something that does not exist for US citizenship, and did not exist for Canadian citizenship prior to this law.

Good question. My baby (one month on Thursday :)) has brown hair with natural blonde hilites. Her hair is almost equally blonde and brown.

Congratulations on your new baby!!! Mine is about 2 weeks older. So close!! My LO has almost no hair - just fuzz. When she was born the nurses at first though redhead. Her sister and I are blonde and her daddy is brown with red highlights. Depending on the light I can see all 3 colours. And as for her eyes they're still changing! Her sister and I have blue and her daddy has brown so it could go either way. Our latest guess is grey though!

Agh, what do I put on the application! LOL. Didn't expect to have this issue! Seriously, anyone have tips? I want to apply as soon as possible for future travel!

Hello all,

I had not noticed this thread before.

My wife and I had our first child together (she has a daughter from a previous marriage so I am blessed with a step daughter as well) on the 15th of August. I was lucky enough to be able to be there for the birth and 2 weeks after. It is hard right now as I am not there but we are making it work. We sent off our documents to NVC last night via EP...hopefully we get through the rest of the process as fast as possible.
