Obviously, we are both NOT average worker. And I do understand that gathering document will be done by us. As I have mentioned, there is one detail we are not sure of hence we need professional advice and it's a legitimate concern not some "sales tool". Money is not an issue. He CAN afford it and I CAN afford it.

Just do what most girls do here from Philippines when they have a "Legitimate Question" that needs "Professional Advice", just start a new account. I have seen questions ranging from genital warts and hemorrhoids to being married and going thru annulment questions. Most if not all can be answered here.

Really only time I could see anyone needing a lawyer to file for them in Philippines if there was an issue with child abuse or sexual assault.

In our opinion at least. I mean, if it's that simple, companies like these will not exists.

Foolish Thinking.

Companies like this exist to take advantage of people and charge them outrageous prices to perform simple tasks.

It very simple to get a passport in the Philippines, but they have services all over the place there to help a person get a passport.

There was a post very recently, when a couple, using a lawyer, got 3 (!!!) RFEs, all for very trivial things that nobody here with any brains would ever forget. I felt bad for them, they paid money, and, just as you, hoped that it will 'smooth out' the process. WRONG. They actually asked all those questions to the lawyer and followed his advice.

This is an other side of having a lawyer- false sense of security. YOu ask him and you trust his answers and you don't bother to check yourself...

Their RFEs were for something like not including some divorce certificate and letters of intent, while it is emphasized here multiple times how important are those. I was shocked, actually, and the woman was very upset too.

There is NOTHING in this process that is tricky, or complicated, or needs a lawyer at this stage. It is as simple as following directions and submitting ALL required documents

Hi guys, thank you all so much! Yes, we've done the research. Yes, we've looked at the forms. Yes, we are starting to gather the documents needed. It's still looks like a headache to us! Come on people.. Don't judge HAHA! Yes, we both know that visa servicing firms will just collect documents, fill up the forms and organize it. And that what it is all about anyway. And that is want you are paying for. But it makes a big difference. In our opinion at least. I mean, if it's that simple, companies like these will not exists. We want it to go smoothly and be able to speak to somebody who knows the process 24/7. Peace of mind especially for him as he works 12hrs a day and sometimes 16. I work the normal 8 so I have time to spare for research and collecting what's needed. Thank you for the comments and advises.

So far, I have these recommended firms

rapidvisa

easyfiancevisa

visanow

I've spoken with a representative from VISANOW and got a quote. I was able to chat with a rep from rapidvisa and got a quote as well. I got the price for easyfiancevisa from the net. VISANOW, by far, is the most expensive as they claim each case is reviewed by an Attorney first and then that attorney will decide what are the "extras" that you have to present along with your petition. I think that's cool.

Mi Amor and I are still discussing these matters. Please, if you know a reputable firm and/or used a reputable firm that has helped you with the K1, feel free to recommend.

Again, that you all!

Hi John and April :)

I saw this thread and you're asking for recommendation. On my case during my K1 visa, I used Immigrant Visa Center or formerly known as Amerika atbp. https://visacenter.org/. They have their own TV station and radio station to double check. At first, I was hesitant since I want to do it myself to avoid any expenses but I need help due to my hectic schedule at work that time so I researched and went at their office in Ortigas. Actually, I called first and asked for an appointment on consulting their immigration attorney for my case. I think it's about 2,000 pesos for the consultation and you can ask anything. If you want their services, you can go ahead until you have your interview (they have staggered payments) or if you're okay with the one time consultation then they're fine with it as well no pressure.

I understand you also don't have enough time like me before so hope this recommendation helps. This is legit too. Right now, I am actually doing my AOS journey by myself especially when I found this site , it's very helpful. :) You can weight the pros and cons too if you really need to consult a lawyer or not :) God Bless.

Quoted for truth. Some people are going to have to learn the hard way. It was never about the money for us either, and although my time was impacted, it basically just took a weekend of solid and detailed work to get it done. I knew no one would do as careful a job as we would, because no one else had anything riding on it. I've seen too many people pay lawyers or services, only to not only get RFEs, but then have the lawyer or service take forever to submit a response re: the RFE.

My advice to anyone who actually cares about getting this done right: take a weekend and do it yourself. If it isn't important enough to you to prioritize it, by all means, hand it off to someone who is primarily interested in taking your money, and who may or may not do a good job. Shrug.

I would never make a flat recommendation to never use or consult with an attorney. Not everyone's case is straightforward, and sometimes competent legal assistance can assist greatly. I have no idea whether the OP's case is one of them, but a flat recommendation to never use a lawyer is poor advice.

I disagree. The K-1 process is very time-consuming and one tiny mistake can cause an RFE, which will delay the process by 6 or more months. The K-1 process is NOT simple, even with the guides. If it were so simple, VJ would not be needed as a community resource, now would it?

Visa services are for those people who have money and not a lot of time, as well as wanting peace of mind their case is handled with very little error. In addition, visa services provide answers to legal questions most people on this site are not qualified to answer. So for the money, they are an invaluable service, and I would highly recommend one like easyfiancevisa.com for those who want peace of mind that their K-1 will be done correctly and have money to spare.

When reading your post my first response will of been like most of the members on here reply. You do not need lawyer or a visa service just Waste of money.

However after being on this site for a while. I understand more why someone will want to use a lawyer or a visa service company. It can be a long process and if that help you to feel more confident and comfortable during the process and less stress. You should use a visa service

To answer your specific question i can not as i did the process on my own

good luck on whatever way you decide

The K-1 process is NOT simple, even with the guides.

I don't know; I managed it and I'm fairly useless at everything, so anecdotally there are either some real potatoheads out there or people just get insta-overwhelmed and don't want to even attempt it.

C'est la vie. Money makes the world go around.

There's that smell again...

Considering how many people with lawyers keeps getting RFE's I am so thankful we decided not to have a lawyer deal with this.

The amount of RFE's posts via DIY on VJ far exceed the RFE via lawyers or visa services posts on VJ. That said though, lawyers are people too and can/will make mistakes. Furthermore, lawyers are a lot like doctors, there are good ones and there are bad ones. It's up to the client to find a good lawyer through research.

Here is a little blog on the pros and cons of a lawyer/visa service vs DIY from a K-1 Couple:

http://theresnoplacelikeoz.com/k1-fiance-visa-do-you-need-an-immigration-lawyer-or-attorney/

I certainly agree with them and had a similar reasoning in my choice to use a visa/lawyer service.

Considering how much money you give them, they are not supposed to cause you to get an RFE on basic mandatory stuff needed to file out the i-129 like Letter of intent to marry etc. At least when you do it yourself you've got yourself to blame. If a lawyer messes up you just end up paying more.

Of course there will be a higher number of RFE from members who have done it themselves compare to those that have hire a lawyer ,as there are more people on here that choose to do DIY. To get a proper comparison you will need to compare the percentage of RFE for DYI to RFE of those using a lawyer or visa service
