upcoming citizenship interview + passport in French Consulate = Am I in trouble?

Hi guys,

I have a citizenship interview scheduled for next week. I do have my old passport showing my travel dates (one travel to Europe), but my current passport which I have for two years (it doesn't have any travel stamps in it) is in French Consulate since i have applied for a Schengen visa for a travel to France. I am not sure if they will send my passport before the interview, if not, am I in trouble?

I have copies of my passport pages as well as receipt from consulate saying my passport is with them. I also have an invitation letter from a conference in France stating the purpose of my travel.

Do I need to prepare additional proofs (bills, bank statements, paychecks, ...) in order to show my presence in US for last two years? I assume they can confirm first three years by my old passport.

I appreciate you sharing your similar experiences or any advises and heads ups.

The interviewer will either want to see your current passport or a police report explaining that you lost that passport or had it stolen. I suggest you go to the French consulate and ask for your passport back, even if you have to withdraw your visa application.

If you are a risk taker, there's always a chance that you'll get an interviewer who is a little lax and will not insist on seeing the passport.

I agree they will want to see the passport. Can you contact the French consulate and ask how much longer it will be? If you explain the circumstances, they may be able to speed it up. If not, you may need to either delay the Schengen visa in order to get the passport back, or the citizenship interview.

I think if you have your passport photocopy and a receipt from the consulate you should be fine. They can verify your travel dates with a click of a button.
