Civil fine

Do I need a court disposition for a civil fine which I paid to NY transit? I paid for the fine online and called them and they provided me with a receipt and a statement stating that the violation was satisfied. It was a $100 fine. I received a fine because I couldn't find my receipt on a MTA bus. I didn't indicate this fine on the n400 form but I will at the interview.

Is it listed as a citation? I'm not a hundred % sure but I really doubt they are going to look at it. Did you mention it on the application you submitted?.

If it doesn't say citation you don't have to mention it.

Were you on an MTA SelectBus? If so, you were fined for fare evasion wherein you were issued a citation and technically pleaded guilty by paying the fine. This is not a traffic violation and doesn't fall under the "Other Documents" instructions for evidence of violations under $500. You were, and are, required to report this on your N-400.

Yes a selected bus, i didnt know that, until I did some researching after I submitted my n400 application. What should I do now?

When you go for your N400 interview, the officer will go down line-by-line asking you questions and reviewing the answers you put down. If I was in your position knowing now how the N400 goes from my experience, I would ask the officer *before you swear (or affirm) to "tell the whole truth", etc., advise the officer that you needed to clarify "question xx" (whatever item number it is you need to rectify).

You can go from there, and she/he will ask you details about what happened and will most likely want to see evidence that you paid the infraction. Whatever you do, don't lie at all at the interview or it's over. And not the good kind of over...
