I am in the tedious process of a K1 visa for my Beninese/Togolese fiancé. He was born in Togo but lives in Benin. He does not yet have a passport. We are filling in Benin so I wanted to know if a Togolese passport could be used or if it would be better to get a Beninese passport? Please help!!

It all depends on what citizenship he has. If he was born in Togo then that will be the passport he needs to have, and because he now lives in Benin then put in the US Embassy of choice nearest Benin.

Was I the only person who had to google "Benin" ??? Learn something new everyday... :blush:

Anyway, he should use his passport where he is a legal citizen, then do the interview where he lives.

*I am the (female) petitioner, my husband  is an Australian citizen *

Thanks all! I had to google benin before i got here too. On the paperwork i said he was born in Togo but his nationality was Beninese... i am not sure what i wrote for citizenship... any advice?
