My wife is in the U.S. on a CR-1 visa, whose 2-year conditional time is coming to an end. We filed the i-751 to remove conditions. She has received a biometrics appointment. It's in a nearby city but during my working hours. Is it necessary or recommended that I accompany her? I have very limited annual leave hours built up, and her English is pretty solid, but since I don't know what these biometrics appointments are like, I'm not sure if I need to, or should, go along with her.

You do not need to attend. The biometrics appointment should be very easy for her. It is just fingerprints and a photo. They will walk her through it. There aren't any questions, just chit chat really. Even my kids did it without me telling them what to do. They are 9 & 6 and just followed the instructions of the lady.

If your wife's English is not very strong tell her to just be careful and make sure she hands her papers to someone at a counter. Each office is set up differently but for me there was a sign that said to put your papers in it and wait however as I walked in someone called me to a window to collect them. Encourage her to try to make eye contact with someone behind a counter so they acknowledge that she is there and maybe she can indicate she doesn't know what to do and they can direct her. Are you in an area that will be a very busy office?

Well, for some reason I never got a system notification of a response to this question, so, just to be safe, I went with my wife to the biometrics appointment. For anyone reading this in the future, I concur with what is written above: you don't need to accompany your spouse to the biometrics appointment, even if he or she knows no English. It was a completely mechanical process. All I did was wait in line with her (which took about two hours, making me wonder about the purpose of them assigning us an appointment time in the first place), and when it came to actually getting fingerprinted, I wasn't even allowed to go back with her. I basically wasted my limited vacation hours taking an entire day off work. Oh well. So it goes.
