Hi all,

I had Noa1 on March 19, 2015 and my NOA 2 on April 8, 2015.

What would be the next step?

I've read this part already..

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

...but my real concern is.. what happened to my approved I-129F now?

where is it?

how soon can i get case number?

Did you check your status on USCIS website at all during the process or did you just go by the letters they sent? If you do check your status it will say there that your case was sent to the Department of State for visa processing.

CSC does not do that, only TSC does.

OP- assuming your case went to CSC- you will just have to call NVC to find out if it's received your petition. Your status on the USCIS website will NOT change from its current one.

Edited to add: CSC often takes more than 2 weeks to get files to NVC. No need to call NVC until after 14 or more days have passed since your NOA2. Don't be surprised if it takes closer to 30 days.

OMG!!!! usmsbow! I just looked at your timeline and seen that it took 5 months for your case to get from USCIS to NVC?????

Was your petition part of the blunder that CSC did when TSC transferred the old petitions, then they were sent to the wrong DOS area? What happened? In hindsight, do you think you could have prevented such a long wait?

I am waiting to hear about my DOS transfer now. I can vouch for what you are saying - that CSC does not update or notify petitioners when the case is transferred!

There were around 20 of us on VJ who went through that experience. No more than half of us were transfers from TSC. The only thing connecting us all was we received our NOA2 between mid-September and mid-October (perhaps a couple were after that, I don't remember exactly). We never found out what really happened, but finally in December USCIS admitted that our files had never been sent to NVC. For some, the petitions were sent to the NRC instead and had to be re-directed to the NVC. I never got a clear response from USCIS until they told me they sent it to NVC in early January (and even then I was worried since they had earlier said they had shipped it, when they really hadn't).

No, there was nothing I nor any of the others could have done to prevent such a long wait. Maybe if I had contacted USCIS sooner and put in a service request, it would have sped it up but probably no more than a few weeks.

Do you have to call NVC to get your case number? Do they send you anything to say they have received your petition? How do you get notified it has left NVC and on to the embassy. Is anything required between NOA2 and over to embassy? Sorry, this step seems vague to me :-)

It's vague for me too! From what I've learned is that since you are TSC, your USCIS account should show that you have been transferred. The good thing is that K-1's don't hang out in NVC like spousal visas do. The NVC should be sending the US beneficiary a letter with all the pertinent info, but calling can be a good way to get it as well (and tying up the phone lines - getting through to the NVC is as easy as getting a US visa! You can wait just as long!).

When the embassy gets the petition, they follow local guidelines, which are all different. For example, Kabul will send out emails only and doesn't bother with postal mail to give the detailed info on what to bring and setting up the interview and medical...blah, blah, blah. But other than keeping an eye out in the mail and/or trying to call the NVC as early or late as possible without needing to re-dail 45 times in a day, I don't think there is anything else the petitioner or beneficiary needs to do. Just gather the financial documents as the beneficiary needs to send a wet signature for the affidavit of support.

Thanks Amhara! I have heard its a long phone process, so i was hoping to get notified that NVC recieved my information and also when it has left. I guess there is no way to check online.

For many of us, NVC doesn't send us anything. We are only contacted once our petitions reach the embassy. People call NVC for peace of mind more than anything since the case # is only needed to track your petition on the State Dept website.
