POE by Car and Coming Back to Canada

Hello Everyone.

Has anybody here encounter any issues with POE via land border with intent to come back to Canada after few days?

I plan to use my parents' car to move all my stuff to US and at the same time I will be activating my CR-1 visa at Fort Erie-Buffalo border. After 2-3 days, I plan to come back to canada for few weeks to return the car and complete few other things before I permenantly move to US. Would this be a problem considering I am not going to be permenantly moving to US at the time I activate my visa?

Thanks in advance.

Nope, no issues. Your endorsed visa will become a temporary green card. :)

Been VJ'ers (CR-1/IR-1)that once they get the visa endorsed, immediately turn around and head back to Canada.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm close to that example. I came on a weekend for a visit and completed my POE but then went right back to Canada for another 10 weeks before making the permanent move.

Hi Ms Hogan, question - did you continue working in Canada after your POE? between the time of POE and when you actually moved to the US permanently?

I started this thread 3 years ago and just like you I stayed in Canada and worked for about 7 weeks after my POE, before I moved to the US for good. Now I am not sure about continuous residency requirements for citizenship application. I know any trips to Canada under 6 months dont break the residency requirements but what if you worked for couple months in Canada after the POE?

I did my POE March 13. I did my final official move June 3rd. I came down every weekend though between March and June. I didn't even give it a thought when I did my citizenship. I just did it based on my POE date. Not sure if this helps but I hope it does.

Yeah I didnt give it much thoughts about it but I worked in Canada between my POE and actual move so was wondering if working in canada changes anything? Were you working too between march 13 and june 3rd?

https://www.uscis.gov/system/files_force/files/form/n-400instr.pdf  part 9, page 8 of 18 gives instructions on having to report dates when ur out of the USA for 24 hrs or more, but that doesnt really say if it affects the date you can file for naturalization.  I spend a few weeks each yr back in Canada on holidays, but based my submission on my POE date as well.....I'm sure if one submits to early, they will let you know, lol

Thank you. I am going to file by the POE date since the duration i was in Canada after my POE for work was barely 2 months.
