and what exactly is a lawyer going to say? The same EXACT thing others have said. Never ever make final arrangements for anything until you have a visa in hand. Why waste the money for an attorney?

I had 5 different lawyers tell me pretty much what VJ says NOT to do. Of course I didnt follow their direction so waiting...waiting...waiting.. but thats okay too least its done right.

A lawyer won't help much. He cannot push thhe case to the front of the line to make it quicker because plans were made. It says specifically not to make plans ahead of time.

And if they gave you advice on what I'm sure was something illegal then you were given bad expensive advice.

I filed my k1 with a lawyer. He happily took our money. Months later complaining about the backlog to my coworkers mother, OUR LAWYERS SECRETARY said she wishes we had adjusted from vwp. A little late eh? I figured that's what you were referring to.

When filling in your timeline, please understand that all I-129F's are sent to the LOCKBOX in Texas, and then ROUTED (not transferred) to your ASSIGNED service center- the one in Texas "TSC" (not the same as the lockbox!), or the one in California "CSC". If your tracking number starts with WAC, you're at the CSC, you were not transferred! There are no transfers at this time. If your number starts with SRC you're at the TSC and that's where you will serve your entire sentence.USCIS isn't fair.

They don't care about you.

No you wouldn't. But make damn sure no one ever gets the idea you are actually married- USCIS and embassy staff have denied petitions from people they considered married even though the applicants claimed it was not legally binding.

Easier said than done.

Everyone and their mothers will be taking pics with their cells, and at least some might post in their facebook. Is=f the immigration folks get inclined to check facebook (and I think is safe to assume they do, though not in all cases), they can bring trouble to your petition.

Lawyers can give advice with the almost absolute certainty that they are not the ones being screwed should something go wrong. Try following: when a lawyer gets you advice, have them sign a guarantee or promise that things will happen the way they describe, and if not, write a remedy, something like a 5 figure number that they would pay you. I doubt you will find one laywer that would be willing to sign such a contract.

The risk is relatively small from what I've seen, but exists.

Oh yeah? Please share your secrets! I'm sure all of us waiting patiently at TSC would love to know how to get our loved ones here faster! $

I believe they're referring to some Visitor Visa razzle dazzle.

No, you do not need a lawyer to tell you how to find loopholes in laws, nor do you need one to tell you that it's probably a good idea to push back the date of a wedding or to make any plans until you have the visa in hand. If you would like to pay me a large amount of money, I will gladly tell you I am a lawyer, and tell you the same thing.

Lawyers are allowed to accompany one to the AOS interview, something that is not allowed at a Consulate/Embassy interview for a fiance or spouse. This is a huge advantage.
